My son is 19 months, doesnt feed himself.

My daughter is 3.5 years old but cant really remember when she started feeding herself with fork/spoon etc.

The spoons I have at home have really long handles and he holds the spoon by the end and struggles to get the other in in the mouth!

Any recommendations of good spoons/cutlery you have tried to help LOs feed themselves?

I some Disney themed ones cuz they are metal at the ends so the food doesn't slip off, but they are short with wide, plastic handles so they are easy to hold.

And FYI... my son is 3.5, and while he CAN feed himself, he chooses to have me feed him about half the time... it's very annoying. It's like he gets bored of doing it himself. *rolls eyes* ... men...

Callum uses our cutlery most of the time now but we found the ikea cutlery great -

We use some tommee tippee ones. He has a few different ones, plastic and metal but all tommee tippee. He doesn't really feed him self yet. He can do it, he just chooses not too 90% of the time, quicker to use his hands.

We have loads of different ones but like pp said the plastic handles with metal ends are the best for 'serious meals' also there's a plastic range by Zak which are really good, we have Christmas ones and fireman Sam ones and my son just loves choosing which ones he wants for his meals

We have tommy tippee ones with plastic handles and metal ends as well as a pack of plastic forks and spoons from wilkinsons. Ashley is starting to try using them at the moment but I think it will be a while as he's a bit too aggressive and stabs the food to death

I have a Thomas the tank engine fork, spoon and knife set (dont use the knife yet)that LO uses to feed himself. They are short with a plastic handle and metal top. Really good for little hands x

Mine was just a set from mothercare cos I needed the plate with suckers on it that they came with for his tray as LO got into the habit of tipping his food all over himself. Didn't actually expect him to use them just yet but he's already got the stabbing with the fork and putting the food in his mouth mastered :O

LO is pretty good with a spoon for eating things in bowls like applesauce/yogurt/cereal. I'm going to start a fork soon, he just eats things off a plate with his fingers. He tends to flick the food around using the cutlery if it's on a plate.

Tom had a Thomas the Tank Engine set from Mothercare but recently he wanted a new one for big kids. I found a Peppa pig set in Tescos for £3 which has bigger metal bits so looks bigger but is still smaller than full sized ones.

He can use adult sized forks and spoons fine but it's easier with the smaller ones. He's still learning to use the knife.

I really like the ikea cutlery - it's metal and pointy enough to actually spear things, but small and easy to grip. My son (3.5) uses cutlery almost all the time and is now able to use a knife to cut and spread. My daughter (19mo) uses cutlery about 70% of the time, but only a fork and spoon. She recently got really into it when she figured out how to stab food with her fork lol!

Tommy is 18 months and is nowhere near using cutlery yet. He just want to use his hands all the time still.

Daisy has that same set. She likes having adult cutlery but those ones are a good compromise.

Lucas has an all metal set from dunelm mill he has always used metal ones his first set came from one of the catelogues with name engraved but we lost to fork. We have bought character sets but always find the forks to be too blunt! https://www.dunelm-mill.com/shop/kids-viners-4-piece-robots-cutlery-set-182076

We've just started introducing these https://www.johnlewis.com/beaba-cutlery-set-pack-of-6-spoons-and-4-forks/p231569210 and LO has really taken to them... so much so that much to nurserys dismay she won't let anyone spoon feed her anymore and makes a huge mess at every meal but is very pleased with herself when she's done! Ha ha :haha:

I've tried a number of cutlery sets and the best by far for self feeding is the OXO range. My LO who is ages with yours uses them easily and gas managed to feed herself a bowl of rice crispies with milk. And even better is that they are on offer in Boots for buy 1 get another half price. I was at Glasgow Fort other day and there was lots of them there.

Here's the link

Honestly can recommend them enough :) :flower:
