just wondering if anyone has managed to feed their LO if they have a tongue tie. katie has got one and i had problems feeding in the first week. i am now having problems again which is making me really sore. MW said i could get it snipped but would have to travel to chester and seeing as it is out of my area i would have to pay for it to be done

Hi :hi:

My brother was tongue tied and according to my mum, he was able to b/feed with no problems, although in the end he did have it snipped.

I have a friend who is having trouble b/fing her LO and they suspect her baby may also be tongue tied (it takes her AGES to feed and she always seems to need top ups so is possibly not taking as much as she should). My friend went to a breastfeeding clinic and they said they can't be sure if she is or not but said she can go to a specialist clinic too, in Oldham, which is a bit of a trek from here.

Hope you get it sorted x

katies tongue tie is very obvious. https://images.google.co.uk/imgres?...ev=/images?q=tongue+tied+baby&hl=en&sa=N&um=1 katies is like the picture on the left..

I have no experience of tongue tie but I think that it depends on the baby - are you managing to feed ok ATM?

it going ok ish. can feel myself getting sore. got HV coming later so will speak to her

It could just be your nipples still toughening up but it could be his latch with the tie. See what they say but just bear in mind may HV's arent trained in BFing so I'd ask her if you have any support groups locally. If there is you might be better talking to a LC. :)

there are BF groups but there isnt a creche with them for older children so i am unable to go as i havent got anyone to mind the older 2

Surely they allow other kids!? It's not just first time mum's that need help - there are other kids at ours. No creche but the mum's all keep an eye out for each other. I think it's worth enquiring.

the one run by surestart wont let older kids. the one at the hospital does but i havent got a car

miserable sods - my sure start does. Ask her for the LCs contact details and maybe she can come to you or at least have a natter on the phone.

she was meant to phone me after i had been discharged from MW. was told 10 days but its been over 2 weeks now

HV has been she said it best talking to GP about it either at 8 week check or earlier if i feel it is affecting feeding

Is your 6 week booked?? See how you get on in the next few days and if you are still sore I'd go to the GP. Did you chase up the LC?

my 6 week appointment is tied in with babys 8 week check

i have put on my birth plan that i want Ernie checking at birth for tongue tie,as i have already had 2 boys with it. Neither of them were able to bf successfully and it wasnt discovered until they were ages 2/3 and 8/9, with my last one he was alwasy screaming and wasnt gaining weight properly so the hv told me i obviously wasnt producing enough milk for him so i was advised to bottle feed him,and he then began to settle and gain weight.......then when he was 2/3 we found out by chance that he had the tongue tie-all the guilt i felt that i had carried around caused by what the hv told me went and the boys both had their ties snipped on the same day,but the youngests one wasnt done enough so it had to be redone a few months later!
