hi thanks for looking, yeah i think its right at the end of the tongue, whats funny is he was in special care for nearly 2weeks and they never noticed

Hi All

Well we went yesterday. was not sure what would be done because she is not BF.. Dr said he would look and if it was tight he would snip it . my mum came and held her as i wouldn't. and he released it, she did cry and their was blood but this was expected... my poor baby had a bottle and wagged her new tongue for us all to see, the movement now is so much better as is feeding her.
She was a bit grumpy last night but today she is happy and smiling again. Thanks for all the advice and support x

I'm glad she's doing ok, and hope it makes feeding easier for her :)

Sar - it was a student MW that noticed my LO's after I'd been trying to BF for 3 days, with help from about 10 different MWs...!

My cousin's little boy is TT, and I know they had problems BF, but I don't know about FF. I would speak to the specialist and ask what level of TT your LO has. If it's going to be hard when she's older to feed, then I would get it snipped now.

My cousin was told her son's TT wasn't severe enough to snip when he was NB, so they told her that she and her OH would have to do it themselves when he was older. They were told to do it when he was asleep and use a pair of scissors

:saywhat: I would have demanded they do it there and then; you can't do something like that to a baby when you haven't been trained :nope: I should add that my cousin isn't in the UK, so to all the UK mums out there with babies with TT; I haven't heard of anyone in the UK being told to do this.

I think so hun, she seems fine now it looks a bit saw tho.... i asked him afterwards about speech and he said it was probable that she would ov had speech issues!

I thought he would look and then say "it looks fine, don't Worry"
I had got ready to try and persuade them to snip it but i didn't need 2.

Saying that i have read some specialist are not as willing. They would look and say if LO is gaining and happy just to keep a eye on speech development, if it them became a prob a GA and a Opp would be necessary
\swings and roundabouts!!

do you mind me asking what they did, did they clamp the tongue to pull it out? and were there 2 snips or one, what did they do the long stringy bit was it left hanging if there was only one snip?

Hey!
When my LO had his done, the lady just lifted his Tongue up with her hand and did one snip. The skin seemed to retract straight away and then hot less and less over the next few days.
xx

To be t honest i stud in the corner with my eyes shut... my mum had her body on her nee and the dr had her had on his. she said he lifted her tongue with a wooden spatchula and she thinks it was 2 cuts... was v fast the extra skin just goes white and must drop of after a day ??? it looked like a bit of a blood blister after....

I haven't had chance to read all the replies so sorry if this is irrelevent or repetitive, but my LO was tongue tied and FF. We used Dr Browns bottles from the start and never had a problem with feeding.

I did try feeding her from a disposable bottle on one occasion and had problems because it had a shorter teat.

I don't know if the Dr Browns ones are much longer than the ones you've been using, but it maybe worth having a look?
