Too much sex bad when trying to conceive???

Was just wondering.

I've read so many different answers on the internet and i'm now very confused!

I'm coming up to ovulation at the end of the week. How many times a week should i be having sex to optimise my chances of getting pregnant? Some say once every other day as the sperm count goes down and others say that yes the sperm count does go down, but not any amount that would harm chances of getting pregnant.

Would really appreciate any answers.

Well, I go by what i read in my fertility book and it suggests you do it as much as possible in the 3-5 days running up to ovulation day, so every day and once after ov, and no it doesn't effect the sperm count (apparently). I heard Zita West (fertility specialist) on TV saying exactly that the other day aswell. Hope that helps xx

This is so difficult we have tried all options. The FS told us every other day is best, i think it's just luck. XXX

I read on one website that if you have sex everyday then you are twice as likely to get pregnant than if you do it every other day. I'm not convinced though as they healthy sperm can live for up to 5 days so surely eveyday isn't necessary? And I notice that if me and DH do BD every day, then he releases less than if we do every other day. We BD'd every day over my fertile period this month and every other day before that. This is my second proper month of trying and I didn't record anything last month so I can't remember what we did then but it didn't work that month anyway.

DH says it takes 24 hours for sperm to repopulate, so daily can't hurt.
He loves this, and wouldn't have it any other way. If you're stressing to do it tho, I think that makes it less effective. BD should be an enjoyable experience, and if EoD is better for your expeience, than I think that's the best. Everyone is different.

We had sex every day during the fertile window sometimes twice a day and conceived on cycle 2! But I have heard of people having sex every second day and still conceiving really fast. I just couldnt do it every second day just in case today was the day lol Lots of baby dust for u!

As long as his sperm is healthy and he doesn't have a problem with having a low count, it should be ok to BD daily. However, we do it every other day.

i was same read so many things, but my doc told me that they use to say every other day but now they say as much as poss, we do it every day through my cycle, that way i feel i cant miss my fertile time lol hasnt worked up to yet though!

well i know when i did get pg (sadley mc in mar08) the mth we conceived(dec) i know we wud of only had sex twice that mth!! maybe even once!! so who knows,now we try n do it on my fertilte days but with O later sometimes,its confusing,however im gettin use to it and good at timing bd (fertilitymonitor has helped a lot tho!)

Well we were not using any tools, and I didnt even know about ewcm at that point we just said that if it happened it was meant to be.
I always remember it was the 17th of April 2004 , but I had made a mental note of what cycle day I was on and new it was cd10.

Maybe they were just hanging round inside for a bit until my little egg showed her face, OH reckons its his super sperm, like men do!!!

I'm sure as often as possible is the best, but how come people who don't want to get pregnant are the ones that get caught??

I've been very active around my fertile times in January and February, but haven't been lucky yet. Its fun trying though!!

Honestly, just do whatever works for you and your partner. Don't turn you lovemaking into babymaking, because it will have an impact on both the actual act and your emotions. Sperm can survive for up to five days inside you. The every other day option is recommended for the couples where the make partner has low sperm count, but I've read it doesn't make too much of a difference for men with normal counts.

For an SA, the man should abstain for at least two days, but not more than seven, for optimum results.

I got pregnant on my 2nd cycle having sex once everyday after my period ended..
I didnt want to miss a day !

When we ttc our dd we dtd every other day from the day my af finished. We conceived first cycle but that could simply be down to luck. The main reason for us choosing to try that way was mainly as I really didn't want all the stress and hassle of temping, charting and checking cm etc.
I've also heard contradicting advice, some say every other day is best as your oh's sperm get a chance to replenish, some say as much as possible.
We'll shortly be ttc again (once af has finished) and we'll be going with every other day again.

We have always dtd every 2-3 days as aparently the sperm amount & quality goes down if you dtd everyday not 100% sure if this is true I'm just going from what I've read & seen on shows about ttc apparently that gives you a realy good chance of catching ovulation as sperm can live for up to I think it was 2 days inside if it's to early as I said I have no idea if this is true or not I guess we will just have to wait & see xx

As soon as AF has disappeared we're going to dtd every day. Dh can't wait!!! Not going to risk missing a day. When we conceived ds we werent actively trying but only did the dance a few days before and after my possible ov date. I was temping in preparation for beginning to try. Evidently I was rubbish at using temps to avoid pregnancy so let's hope I'm good at using then for actually intentionally getting pregnant this time!!
