Hi Ladies,

This morning, when I was about to brush my teeth, my toothbrush accidently hit the faucet where husband normally washes his hand after handing Kitty Litter .... just paranoid and scared out of my head that it may have been touched by hubby when he washed his hands after scooping last night ... touched my toothbrush and went into my mouth .... could I be a risk of Toxoplasmosis?????????????? I am not immune as recent blood test showed that!

I am so worried and scared .... plz help!!!

Highly unlikely and also cats don't all have toxo. I would say ur fine !!! Be more concerned about washing ur fruit and veg properly and try and chill x

I know my cat is an indoor cat but I am just extremely paranoid about this whole toxoplasmosis thing ... just wondering if he used a scoop to scoop the litter washed the scoop and his hands in the sink ... and touched the faucet by accident ... cold the parasite have gotten on the faucet ? and from there contaminate my tooth brush this morning when it touched it ?

From what I understand indoor cats can only get it certain ways, from their mother, from eating raw infected meat (specifically pork), from eating feces of an infected cat or by catching and eating a rodent who is a carrier. Even still, contraction is still rare. If you are really concerned just buy a new toothbrush and talk to your doctor/midwife. Chances are in your favour though, and I don't think you have anything to worry about.

Spoke to my Obgyn and according to her chances are really slim as she is an indoor cat ... also, as there is only a possibility that the faucet had any contact with the scoop .. that too if my cat was actively shedding toxo in her poo... they wont do another test unless I have any symptoms which may take up to 5 days .

This does not stop me from worrying :nope:

I highly doubt that you would have contracted that. I wouldn't worry at all. I contracted it in my second trimester in my first pregnancy and my son was perfectly fine. I got flu like symptoms about three days after I contracted it..and I didn't even have a cat. I likely got it from fruits or veggies that I didn't wash well enough. Relax and enjoy your pregnancy..

Hey ... were you diagnosed with it then? Did they put you on medication?

They ran a blood test and that's how they knew it was toxo. I was not put on any meds because it kinda has to run its course apparently. Well that's what I was told anyway because I was living in Dominican Republic at the time and its quite common there.

I tested positive for it early in 1st tri. It is highly unlikely I even contracted it from a cat. All is well with baby so I'm not too concerned anymore..

No there is almost no risk of you catching it that way. Don't worry

Does washing a machine washing a towel that has come in contact with cat feces/litter gravel get rid of e bacteria? ... I think I managed t get some litter gravel on a towel... Washed it in the machine and then used a towel that was washed with it .... Any thoughts plz?

I will be re washing the whole load with some heavy duty wash this time but my concern is could using the towel on my face put me at risk for toxoplasmosis ... Through eyes or lips ???.

That is VERY unlikely.... You need to stop worrying so much..

^^wss

I have always changed my cat litter myself and still do. As long as you wash you hands afterwards and practice safe hygiene there is no reason for you to catch it. Plus not that many cats actually have the disease either. You are more likely to catch it from a car jumping up and sitting on your sideboards or similar, and even then its unlikely, not through any of the ways that have been mentioned here.

Do yourself a favor.. Take your cat to the vet and have them test for toxoplasmosis. It is a simple blood test.. I contracted toxo and had both of my cats tested and both were negative.. Obviously I didn't get it from my cats.. There are other ways to get it which are probably more likely..

Sorry for being sooo silly ladies ... but does that mean i can still contract it by a towel that was washed with a towel with the gravel??

No. The temperature from the washing machine alone will kill it. Take your cat to the vet and have them tested and you will be able to stop worrying!
