Transverse Mamas

Hope she turns. Mine is butt side down still (which is breech) but I am hoping he flips. I am 35 weeks now. Getting down to the wire.

Just had a ultrasound on wednesday and she is still breech. Has been breech since my 18 weeks scan im in the same boat a ecv scares me as well. I hear there is still time for her to turn but i also heard that with her not being my first baby she is likely to engage early meaning she may not flip?

Is it harder for a transverse baby to turn than a breech baby? I always sort of knew that bub was sideways, I can feel his/her head where my waist used to be on the left, and his/her body wrapping around - I get a lot of kicks on my right side and tapping up near my ribs.

Never even thought it was a problem, but they need to go head down soon or they'll run out of room!

I've been told that transverse can be harder to flip bc they don't have the ability to do a forward (or backward) roll like a breech can. Don't know if its true or not but it is logical.
My MW told me she wants baby at least breech (though head down is obviously more desirable) by 32 weeks. Something about once they get to a certain size its harder for a transverse to go head down than a breech. So even tho breech isn't ideal either, it would be better and give more hope for baby to go head down compared to a transverse. More time is allowed for a breech, apparently

Mine was transverse until about 32-33 weeks so they can turn but it may not always be the right way...like in my case. I will not have a ECV if he does not turn, they are too dangerous in my opinion, my doctor and I have already talked about it. But Hopefully he will do a flip in the next couple of weeks.

yeah my lo is going back and forth between transerve and breech im sure. Because sometimes i feel the movement on both sides like if she stretches. So im possitive about that. I hope she moves. Are you trying anything to help?

I've done everything on the spinning babies website, handstands in the pool, and chiropractic care. No luck yet

My doctor suggested getting in the pool and doing squats. She also said to not sit back but sit up and both those things can coax them but she said honestly its up to LO. Some babies are just stubborn. If he doesnt turn in 2 weeks we will probably do a scheduled c section at 39 weeks.

I had a low placenta so baby was transverse now at 32 weeks it's over way up and baby is head down

update for transverse mommas! I started using my birthing ball this week, and little one is staying head down now.. (he was flipping between transverse, to breech, to head down). I'm thinking the ball is doing the trick! I highly recommend it to you guys, It seems to be helping me. :) (I am bouncing on it)

I went for my pre ECV ultrasound and he was the right way! :) I felt big movements the day before when I was 35+1 so i'm assuming it happened then. So plenty of time ladies!

Good to hear

Ok so I just had midwife appointment, am now 37+4 weeks and she says it still feels transverse, have scan booked in for Thursday to make sure. However, she did say that they won't try an ECV on a transverse baby at all!!?? I know that is different from some of your experiences, maybe that is just the way they do it here in Scotland?
Anyone else heard similar?

I'm not sure

I was talking to an Anerican bnb member (I'm from the USA) and she works on L&D ward and she said she has never seen an ECV performed on a transverse lie before. W that said she said transverse is extremely extremely rare at term so that could be why. And she said the doctors at the hospital she works at doesnt do ECVs that often.

So I guess it's just really up in the air if u get one or not.
I know I've read if u have an anterior placenta they won't attempt it. The baby also has to be under ~8lbs. And I've heard that if baby is an 'unstable lie' (the baby flip flops and hasn't chosen one overall position) they won't typically attempt an ECV

I ah e also been told that ECVs are less successful on transverse than in breech

My doctor said he would not either on a transverse but not sure if they all would not in the USA or it varies from doctor to doctor.

EDIT: My doctor is originally from Australia and just started his practice here 12 years ago so maybe that has something to do with it as well. Cultural differences and the way they were trained.

My baby is most likely feet down and head up and has been since 16 weeks... Feels like he is kicking his way out down there. I'm 30 weeks tomorrow so he has got some time to move, but my belly is very small and has been the same with my two kids so I'm getting worried he won't have enough room to shift. I'm going to see MW on thursday. Think they want him to be head down at 34 weeks or I will be sent for an ultrasound and they will try to turn him. Not sure when that's going to happen but I guess at about 35-36 weeks? Hope he is turning soon...

I think it varies by doctor. Although I'm not a candidate for an ECV for various reasons, my Maternal Fetal Medicine doctors (in the USA) stated that they would most definitely offer an ECV for a transverse baby and that they're usually easier to turn since they're only making a quarter turn instead of a full one.

My doctor and my specialist both said that ECV is not easy in any direction and that a lot of the time the baby will just turn again. They also said there is a certain amount of danger to them. My friend had a scare with her ECV so I am weary on them anyway. My baby is no longer transverse but is still breech. I already discussed it with my doctor and I will not do it. But that is a personal choice. It is just not a option with me.

Edit: He will not do it on a transverse baby either way because he said not because its harder but because its more dangerous. Forgot to add that.

I agree, even if it were an option for me, I don't think I'd want to take the risk. I don't think my baby is going to budge after 16 weeks of being this way (or briefly breech). I sort of feel like baby is in that position for a reason and I shouldn't try to interfere with it, even though I'd love love love to avoid a 2nd section :flower:.

well it seems a ECV is out for me (although i dont even know yet if my doc does it) i have a very anterior placenta.... So that mean this baby NEEDS to turn or we will be looking at csection. Is there anyone that isnt bothered by the thought of a csection? I really wouldnt be but it is really kinda bothering me?
