Hi girls

We have got a doctors appt next sat to start the ball rolling of why we haven't conceived yet, we're quite nervous about it, so I was just wondering if anyone can tell me what to expect? Is a blood test the first test for the woman? Obviously I know what OH will need to do.

So nervous

Hi Angelblue,

Fx for your appointment hun!!!! Don't be nervous, I'm sure it will all go well. Doc could possibly do a blood test to check your progesterone levels but my doc didn't. He just did a scan to check my uterus and ovaries and all looked good. DH's SA were satisfactory so he put me on Clomid and that seemed to get the ball rolling. He said the next possible step if the Clomid didn't work would be a laparoscopy but thankfully that wasn't necessary.

I hope it all goes well :hugs:

Good luck with your Doc. I haven't been trying long but have irregular periods (I suspect that I may have PCOS) and wanted to make sure that I am actually ovulating before I waste months ttc then months on a waiting list.

My doc has asked me to gone back for a blood test 1 week before next AF to check that I am ovulating. AF got me by surprize this cycle 5wks which is actually quite a short cycle for me so I missed my oppertunity to go to the Doc.

Hi Jolene

Thank you so much for replying. Was the first appt just a consultation? did you have another appt to do scan? What does Clomid do? I dont really know much about it!

Thanks again, its good to hear other peoples experiences :hugs:

Hi Tommyg

Thank you for your reply. I am worried about having a blood test I'm not great with needles - but will have to get over it if I want a baby as there are so many when your pregnant!

Thats really hard for you to predict then isnt it - better luck next cycle then, damn witch. Good luck with your tests :hugs:

Hi Hun,

I had gone to my gynae who has an ultrasound machine in his rooms so he did it there and then. Clomid is for women who are either not ovulating regularly or aren't producing mature eggs. It's a fertility drug. A lot of the time they can find a solution and sort it out pretty quickly so get excited, FINALLY something positive is going to happen :)

Wow really? I hadn't thought about it like that, just nervous of what is going to happen now really. Thanks for putting it into perspective - I hope it will be a positive outcome! :flower:

Hi Angelblue,

I have my first GP appointment at 5.30 tomoz to get the ball rolling. Been ttc since mar'09 but already know my partner has low sperm count as he was in a bike accident 20 years ago and had a partial vasectomy by a landrover!

Same as you, I have no idea what to expect and dreading needles! I am worse with injections than blood tests though as it seems I have more of an issue with what ever is being injected rather than the needle as I can give blood without getting close to passing out. Think best thing we can do is just not think of the needles and keep a picture of a bump growing :D

Good luck for your docs appointment, Pintoes xxx

My periods are irregular, actually non existant since stopping bcp in October. Went to the doctors and they did blood tests, all came back ok so now booked in for a scan (my appointment is tomorrow morning!) to check all is ok with my ovaries etc. Then back to my doctor who said once he has the results from my scan he can get the ball rolling.

Try not to be nervous and look forward to hopefully getting your BFP soon :)

I went to see my GP back in Oct and initially she was reluctant to give me any tests until we had been trying for 2 years (as I am under 30 - only just!). I told her we had been trying for 16 months (most of that was NTNP, but there was no way I was waiting almost 2 years for a simple test!) and that I wanted something to ease my mind. She agreed to send me for CD21 bloods to check progesterone and ovulation.

Results came back fine, so we have been trying since then. I am going to go to a new GP next month if I don't get my BFP this cycle. I will then ask to be referred for further tests and for OH to have SA.

I would say that your GP will likely send you for CD21 bloods in the first instance - unless you have any known problems which could be effecting you TTC in which case they may suggest some examinations / tests. Just bare in mind though that if you have longer cycles, you may need to have CD21 bloods taken later than CD21!

Good luck and don't be afraid to stand your ground if your GP is reluctant to do anything to help you.

hi - the 1st appointment with the Dr he will do a progesterone test to see if your ovulating - usually on CD21 if you have a normal 28 day period. If that comes back ok then he will ask your DH to do a sperm test, If that comes back ok then he might arrange for you to see a FS (if you have been trying for over a year I think). At the FS appointment you will get another load of blood tests for LH, Estradiol, Clymidia, etc. ANd unfortunately DH will have supply another sample. If that comes out all okay then maybe they'll put you on Clomid or give you another few months to fall naturally. Make sure you request a HSG to see if tubes are blocked or not and a LAP to make sure you dont have Endo.

This TTC carry on sucks big time - I hope it all works out okay for you/

I have a bit more of an idea what to expect now, but does this all differ depending on your doctor then?

Wow Foxy 2 years! thats a long time to wait - I thought it was a year

I know - I nearly choked when she said that. I think the general consensus is 2 yrs if under 30 and no known / obvious problems and 1 yr with known probs or over 30.

Most GPs should offer you CD21 bloods in the first instance though.
