My little Élia is formula feed, she takes enfamil gentle ease, at first we had a precribed formula but had to switch because of constipation, now we use enfamil gentle ease, but she has been having trouble eliminating, for a week it has been worse, she has hard poop.. I have been giving her plenty of water and some prune juice but its not helping.

I thought a reduced in iron formula would do the trick. Since my lo is a premie I called her doctor to be shure, and the nurse told me to reduce her intake of milk to 800ml a day and up water and prune juice...

Now I think its weird to restrain a baby in milk...especially if shes a premie and needs to put on weight... if shes hungry water wont fill her up.... so im wondering if I should switch formula or go with the nurses advice...

she is 4 1/2 months...

What do you girls think?

I would typically say listen to the doctor, but sometimes as parents you need to trust your gut. YOU know your child best... and if switching formula would help LO overall, then its worth a shot... I would recommend doing it gradually though (unless your LO has no issues with tummy stuff- our LO had a bunch of spit up issues, so when we took her onto a new formula, we mixed the two for a bit first to help her adjust).

I know prune juice can help- but I hate giving it to LO unless absolutely needed due to the sugars. I know sometimes you just need to do what you need to do though.

Maybe try the new formula and giving more prune juice just a bit (like 1 ounce twice a day or double whatever she is currently drinking- but even that seems a bit much? I'm no expert though). Also, since formula is mixed with water- I can't imagine upping the water would help much? Maybe I don't get why though. LOL.

Sorry your LO is having issues... NO FUN! for her or you I'm sure. Best of luck!!!!
