I have two sisters that are fraternal twins, does anyone know how likely it is for me to have twins? I know its a myth that twins skip a generation. I think I remember reading something saying it can have to do with genetically passing on the ability to release two eggs at one time sometimes or something similar to that? I'm curious what any of you women know about it, I'm going to Google it right now as well...

(also, funny fact, my mom is a redhead and I'm a redhead, so my mom had a redhead, and she had twins, what if I had twins AND they had red hair!? Wouldn't that be crazy? Sorta rare ha ha.)

:twingirls: :twinboys: :oneofeach:

There are no twins in my family, so I was never curious about that, but my doctor told me that if I conceive in the first cycle after I stop using birth control pills there is a high chance to have twins.

Fraternal twins can be genetic because they are due to the woman's body releasing two eggs at once, which is typically passed down from mother to daughter. So I think it's more likely for you to have twins than the average woman.

I think it's pretty cool that you've got the redhead gene too. I'm a redhead and my youngest daughter was also a redhead. We're a rare breed. :haha:

Two of my mom's cousins are fraternal twins and a cousin of mine on my dad's side has red hair. I think she's the only one.

There's a fab genetics predictor thing online where you fill in parents, and grandparents hair and eye colour and gives rough percentage of babies!

Ours came out as 50/50 blonde or red! OH is full of blonde and mine too except me having red! Might be slightly off but fun none the less! If a brown haired baby arises my oh is going to run the other way !

Twins wise, sounds like you have a good chance !!!

How interesting!
My dad's sister had identical twin boys and we would actually love to have twins-a boy and a girl! :D

Twins run heavily on my dads side of the family. There have only been two of us girls (out of 6) that have had kids (3 between the two of us)and no twins yet. However, I had a bleed at 12 weeks and had to go in for an ultrasound. The tech was able to tell that I released an egg from each side, but only one was fertilized. My DH had a panicked look on his face until we saw it was a single baby :haha: I have joked for YEARS that we would have one and then twins...so we will see but it is definitely a high possibility for us!

If your mom had twins then there is always the chance that you will too. The red hair though will depend on if baby's daddy also has the gene (dominant or resessive). The gene can lay dormant for generations before reemerging but has to be on both sides. My DH and I both have brown hair but have red in the family- our DS came out a redhead!

If I found out I was having twins, I would be terrified, a little part of me would be excited, but yeah I would be so scared. I was two and a half when my mom had my twin sisters, she said she bawled she was so scared when she found out. I also def feel like I would have to say 'see ya' to my body in that case as well, lol.

I would have been fine with it the first time I think, but am terrified of having a toddler and two infants!

I used to really want twins. Now I'm not so sure. :haha: I think I could handle it just find since my kids are older, but two babies and then two toddlers at the same time sounds like a handful. lol

My ex aunt who was married to my mom's brother had two twin boys with her new husband. I'm guessing my two cousins (my mom's brother is their dad) have a chance of having twins themselves.

I used to love the idea of having twins until I read about the medical risks. Now I think I would still like to have a pair for my first because I want only 2 children and it would be great for them to grow up together.
My only chance is a freak chance for identical twins.. No fraternal pairs on mine or OH's side
As for eye or hair colour, all black and browns on my side, but maybe a TINY chance for blue from OH :)

My grandmother (on my father's side)had two sets of fraternal twins. So I guess I have a high chance of having twins. My sister miscarried twins. I of want to have a boy girl set.

My dad is a fraternal twin, but I haven't heard of any other case in either of our family histories. I'm not exactly hoping for twins, would be as much frightening as exciting to hear that was the case... :D

The only reason I would be glad is because my DH only wants one child, so if I have twins... well....sry hunny. LOL but yeah would be a lot to take care of.

At the mall today I saw this family who had baby twin boys and another son who looked 2 or 3. I can only imagine how much food they're going to buy as those boys grow.

I really want twins!

My mum lost twins (not sure if identical or not tbh, but they were both boys) but there are no other twins in either of our families.

Yeah by the age of 23 my mom had me and the twins already, yikes.

This former neighbour of ours had triplets last June and another baby in July. It must be hard having four children under two.
