im 6 weeks, with our 1st baby. my dad is a twin his mum had 2 sets of twins, my mum was having twins after me but sadly she miscarried, there are twin on my maternal grandparents side, hubby has twins in his family on both sides. im wondering is there any way of telling if im having twins before my 9 weeks scan? are there any giveaways? i was surprised that im already in maternity pants, as mine are fitting too snug and i dont want them to get too tight. i havent got a bump yet but i can definatly feel some change going on. i notice my belly more when im bending down, it feels like its getting in the way! and its getting uncomfortable laying on my belly and it feels diferent when im on my side. my mum is convinced im futher on than i think.

Any ideas?

ooo i'd say the chances are quite high!!! :winkwink:

not sure about symptoms, but think many women carrying twins report extreme nausea/ sickness and tiredness but think the only real way of telling is a scan xx

are you hoping for two? xx

iv had no morning sickness at all yet. im always tired, some points of the day i notice it more (only coz i tend to ignore it when im working). i wouldnt mind twins, if it was i would really hope it was one of each though.

aww one of each would be perfect!! :) a ready made family so to speak! :)

I always wanted twins with my first pregnancy, my dad is a fraternal twin so hoped to follow in suit, but there is no other twins in my family!

3 more weeks till you find out either way!! :) how exciting!! xx

i know! if it is twins we are going to have to change our bedroom plans for them! only had our house 7 months and we gutted it completely! last room to be done is the babies room but if its twins we will have to use the bigger spare room. i just cant wait to see our baby, one or two. i love it so much already!

I'm not certain but I don't think you inherit the twin gene from your father, also they say it "skips a generation" so if your mom was expecting twins it wouldn't effect you. Something like that. For instance, my mother has a twin brother. She didn't have twins herself but had two daughters 5 yrs apart. My sister didn't have twins, but that leaves me open to the chance. Though only one baby was found on my 10 week.

It's hard to tell without a scan & the more you think about it the more you can psychosomatically exacerbate your symptoms. Just hang in there for a few weeks.

Hi there! I am expecting twin and had no sign of this until the sonographer found two little heartbeats at my normal 12 week scan! Was a bit of a shocker :) ..... although now i feel bigger than i did when I was expecting my little boy, now aged 6, and my breasts are extremely tender too¬

It seems I was expecting twins but just one now. Second sac on scan but had bleed. ( Im happy at one surviving as I will be 47 when this baby arrives-late lamb, twins would have been hard work at my age and worry about Downs etc)

There are no twins at all in our family. I felt and still feel very nauseus most of the time and my cervix. stomach is extra sensitive. My midwife said this could be a sign of twins before I had the scan.

Good luck anyways :flower:

twins come from the maternal side. in our family there is one set of twins in every generation apart from mine so far but i did miscarry twins x

Just to echo tasha, twins can only come from maternal side, unless they are randomly occurring twins (as most identical twins are). Hereditary twins arise from the fact that you are ovulating more than one egg per cycle, and you inherit that from your mum, or your mum's mum, or your mum's mum's mum.... etc etc! if you get my drift :) Therefore skipping a generation is a bit of a myth too, as you either inherit the multiple egg production gene or you don't.

Good luck, sounds rather likely with all that prior twinnage going on!, although swelling and bloating is very common in early pg due to water retention and "colonic muscle relaxing" caused by that pesky progesterone. Keep us all posted one way or other! :)
