Hi Moms/Yet to be Moms :hugs2:

Newbie Here, I'm Nikki a yet to be Mom who is eagerly waiting for motherhood :baby: I n my man got married 2 years back. Last year during August My husband was diagnosed with UC and now currently he is in remission so that we are planning for kid lately this year end. Since he is having UC, we are worrying a lot for pregnancy, we don't want it to pass on to our kids and hence my husband is postponing WTT which i don't want to extend any further. we are 27 n 32 respectively.
I'm confused  whether to give him some more time?

Is it that UC parents(either Father/Mother) surely pass on UC to their kids?

Am i worrying a lot?

Is it possible that our kids will not get UC from my husband?????

Does anyone here going through this situation or dealing with pregnancy with UC??

I want some suggestions, advice, thoughts anything would be appreciated :flower:

Right now i'm confused, depressed and just hoping and praying god to make everything normal for us.

Hi!

I have Crohn's Disease (very similar to UC) and am WTT until Jan 2014 (although not for that reason).

I completely understand your worry, and there are some important considerations with UC/Crohn's and pregnancy...mostly for women of course, so hopefully not so many worries for you.

I'd say he needs to be as healthy as possible before you start trying as during flare ups sperm count/ovulation can be affected.

Also you should definitely check with your husband's GI consultant about whether any drugs he's on have an effect on fertility or carry risks birth defects (there are some that are used that affect men in particular).

Regarding passing it on to the child, I've been told there's a 5% chance of them developing the condition if they have one parent with Crohn's/UC. It's a combination of genes and environmental factors so it's very difficult to predict accurately. My husband is strong and fit so I'm hoping our future little one gets his genes! Fingers crossed.

It's a scary prospect I realise, but my approach has been to get as well as I can in advance, and take the advice of my specialist at every step, especially regarding drugs. Certainly in your husband's case it should be much more straightforward, as you get the job of carrying little one rather than him!:winkwink:

Good luck to you! :flower:

Hi JT2013 !!!!

Thanks for your quick reply :flower: We are consulting his GI for every little thing from the day he was diagonisied by UC. Currently he is on Mesacol, but for 3 weeks he was given steroids to control his first flare and that's why he is worried about our future little one. Hopefully those steroids should not affect to his genes , Right now we are WTT may be until 2014 and not sure from which month, until then I will try my best to make him strong and healthy and rest is left to god we can just hope and pray.

All the very best to you too take loads of care post updates and hope for best

Post any suggestions, advice, thoughts, tricks, just anything regarding my problem it would be very helpful and Hunnnn Thanks once again :hugs:
