I went to a fair, and we decided to watch the demo. car derby......long story short Im sitting there...very obviously pregnant, with my 7 year old son on my lap and not one...but 5 people started smoking at the same time, one beside me on one side, one on the other side and 3 behind me....I couldnt believe it. Honestly, do people have NO respect for non smokers anymore??? I was so ticked off.....one lady actually moved away from her son and sat right beside mine and lit her cigarette....are you kidding me???? I used to smoke, I would NEVER light one beside a child....or a pregnant women.....or both at the same time.....ugh.....thanks ladies for listening to my rant I just can't believe that there are people that think that's ok

That's disgusting. When I used to smoke, I would never light up if I was standing close to ANYONE (unless they were also smoking) and never even remotely close to children, pregnant women, etc.
What's wrong with people??

I dont disagree with people chosing to smoke but i do near a baby.
I mean my parents smoke and if there was someone pregnant or with a new baby next to them they would ask first.

Although in the open air there isnt much you can do.

Me and OH were sat having a cig at a zoo once and a lady made a huuuge demonstration of putting her hand over her sons (about 3 years old) mouth. That was in my opinion OTT but I think you have every right to be anoyed at them inconsiderate people, it's just good manners to move away!x

Urgh I hate this too, it's really inconsiderate.

Even my hubby is a bit careless. He goes out on the balcony to smoke but leaves all the apartment doors open so of course it waffs in. Just cos he can't smell it don't mean I can't! He closes the doors now though, after much tongue lashings. x

I am thankful that here in America we have more protection from second hand smoke than we used to. Just this year, the local community college banned smoking from the entire campus (not just the buildings).

It is very inconsiderate. If someone wants to smoke, they need to go where NO ONE is impacted by their nasty habit...they shouldn't assume it is okay. Heck, even if they ask if it is okay to light up, most people I know wouldn't openly object out of politeness. The people with the addiction should be the ones inconvenienced...not everyone else. nonsmokers shouldnt have to let their health be compromised because of other's addictions.

I use to smoke too. I have no idea how, it just makes me sick. And I realize now how inconsiderate a lot of smokers are. They treat the world like their own personal ash tray. If you're in a crowd, you just shouldn't smoke. Especially with kids or pregnant women around.

Most smokers just don't get how awful it is! I sometimes buy my lunch from a bakery and sit at a bench to eat it nearby (in the local town centre). Pregnant lady, eating. Twice recently I've done this, both times some inconsiderate smoker has decided to sit next to me and light up! Grrrr!

if they was smoking in open air theres not alot u can do or really shouldnt moan smoking has been banned indoors in every public place now, give the smokers a break i say!

when i was a smoker i wouldnt smoke near children or pregnant women, i find it disgusting. it was my dirty habbit and i wouldnt want children breathing it in so id move away.
its just manners, which alot of smokers and other ppl these days just dont seem to have.

we took zane to a saffari park, walking around having a lovely time to then have some woman blow smoke at the back of our heads while looking at the rabbits, i could of smacked her i was so mad!

and even tho smokin is banned in alot of places such as bus stops it doesnt stop tw*ts still lighting up and smokin there

its so funnny how you see things different when yu dont smoke anymore.
When i smoked i got to admit, i probably wouldnt have thought about it too much, however i wouldnt go sit near a pregnant women or anyone!
I quit as soon as i got my bfp and now i hate smoke!

I was sat at a bus stop the other day and two ladies sat down next to me on the bench and lit up. I moved immediately and instead stood and waited for my bus instead. Doubt they even noticed that I had moved.

On my way into work a very long queue develops for the bus outside Waterloo station. It really used to get to me when someone in front of me in the queue would light up as you have no option but to stand and have smoke wafting in your face or leave the queue when really it should be the smoker that leaves the queue if they are really that desperate for a fag!

I used to smoke and I have no problem with it most of the time as I will move if I feel I'm breathing it in. But I would never have smoked somewhere like a bus stop or a queue, and it really irritates me, as it's not a simple case of just moving away if it bothers you otherwise you'd likely end up missing the bus!

Oh it'st absolutely vile isn't it. The sooner smoking becomes illegal outside your own home the better.

I've never smoked purely because I hate the smell/taste of it. Fair enough people choose to do it, I dont care, but I dont want to breath it in and I think its rude for people not to consider others, especially children and pregnant women. I haven't had anyone blowing smoke in my face thankfully, I have 1 friend that smokes and if we are walking somewhere and she lights up she keeps it well away from me. If someone sat next to me and lit up and I would say something, and if they didn't like it then tough!!!

Never have got why people smoke, I dont understand why anyone would choose to breath in smoke, makes no sense to me. Each to their own though!

I can't believe the woman moved away from her own son but sat next to yours, totally totally rude!!

~I dont really think its blatant rudeness but more a complete lack of thought, which in turn IS rude. I would have had to politely say something to them tho tbh!

As for making it illegal unfortunately that would never work! ~Unless it was made illegal world wide which would make it slightly more diicult. Everyone I know including me before I gave up, gets their cigs from abroad, as its a lot cheaper... and even i that wasn't possible, they would still be available, just at a much higher price. Much the same as illegal dugs!

Are you for real? People chose to smoke. That doesn't mean that they should do it sat next to a pregnant person or someone eating or anyone else for that matter. Passive smoking does kill, we know that. So why on earth if you want to kill yourself should you think it ok to kill another?

And my pet pet pet hate is when you see people smoking in their cars with children in the back. OMG.

my oh is a smoker, as much as i hate it but he thinks its wrong to smoke around children and pegnant women. hed never do it so it isnt just the non smokers bashing the smokers, its just some smokers are just rude and dont think of others

well im sorry u would soon moan if they lite up nxt 2 u in a cafe or restuarnt smokers have been banned for smoking indoors for a reason (passive smoking) if they are outside u shouldnt moan its your responsibility 2 move from them not them from u! there outside its where they should be! dont knolw what the fuss is all about juding people cuz they smoke by pregnant ladies its not hard 2 move from them if u dont like it!

Oooh... sorry Rachel I have to disagree with you. I don't dislike or disrespect smokers. I don't smoke, that's my choice. I don't appreciate inhaling others smoke and sometimes, even outdoors, you can't avoid it.

The way I see it is that if we were born smokers and chose not to smoke then absolutely it would be the non smokers responsibility to move away from smokers to protect themselves... but when we are all initially non smokers and smokers make that choice to smoke then they need to accept responsibility for it. It's been proved that smoke inhalation of any kind can be harmful and so really smokers should be doing everything to protect others from inhaling the fumes from their habit.

Think of it a different way. If I chose to take up a dangerous hobby... lets say I enjoy waving knives around carelessly... you wouldn't think that it's your reponsibility move away from me to protect yourself. You'd expect me to take care, respect others from danger and only practice my hobby in a place where I could only harm myself. That's a stupid OTT example but kinda makes the point.

Don't wanna start a debate and I hope I've put my point across without it seeming like one of those overly negi comments that make a thread spiral.
