Hello,

My section is booked for monday, and I want my son to be the first to see his new brother or sister. Can i take him out of school to you think? and keep him home for the day?? i know normally its a no.. but i thought maybe it would be different for a day like this? hes 5 :) xx

i would of thought they would be ok for this reason but then im really not sure

why not? of course you can take him out it's you're child you have the rights over him not the school

I'm a teacher and even I think that this is a good idea!

Of course you can take him out. People take their kids out of school to go on vacations, I would think that having a child would be ok lol

aww thank you :) i shall get OH to call them monday morning.. hes been very distraught the last week because i was in hospital and he had to stay at his grandparents so i would much prefer if his grandad had him home for the day. That way OH can drop his mum back after the section and collect our son.. we can have some special time together and then his mum could come back later in the day with the family.

i will be taking my son out of school as soon as this little one is born for the day x

so silly i really didnt know that you could.. lol.. so glad i asked :)

Just ring the school on the morning and tell them your son isn't well so you are taking him to the doctors and keeping him off for the day :flow:

do i need to do this or can i just be honest? because son will tell his teachers and friends the next day anyway lol

Officially, you are meant to fill out a form to 'ask' for permission, since its not for a medical reason... but that bloody annoys me, they're OUR kids, not the schools! lol. Just tell them the truth, if they don't like it, tough! Though I'm sure they'll be fine with it..I kept my eldest home for a day last month to help me move house, the school weren't particularly bothered just for 1 day!

I think it's a great idea BUT are you sure you'll be up for it after the c-section? will the hospital 'let' you? Just curious....

best wishes

I'm a primary school teacher and you are officially allowed 10 days of holiday during school time so it can count as that for authorised absence.

Like people have said, you can take him out of school. Just say you've gone into hospital to have baby, hehe, may also get chance to tell class friends about baby and teachers be aware to look out for him

Ask to get some work for him and he can be marked as authorised absence but educated off site. This way it won’t effect his attendance.

Bet he is excited! :D

I wouldn't bother asking permission! Just tell them the score. It's not like you're swanning off on holiday or putting something trivial ahead of his education.

I was 13 when my little brother was born. My nan rang my school and told them my mum was in labour and that i couldnt get to school and they was fine with it :) i had two days off :) xx

I wouldn't even bother lying about it. It's her child. I'd just tell them the reason why she wants him out of school for a day or two. It's not like it's not for a good reason. :baby:

My understanding is that you can take them out for up to 10 days per school year when they are that age
