Did you spend at the hospital for your 12 week scan? I'm just wondering because my letter came through this morning saying to expect to spend 2-3 hours there, I don't mind, but I have work that evening and just wondered if it really could take 3 hours so I can let work know I'll be a little late?

I thought about that, but everyone here seems to be having their 12 week scans haha, I'll repost there later, thanks

what?? i got given my 12 week scan appointment, i went there and they called me in at the time they gave me but i was there for about an hour because i had to have my bloods taken, when i went for an early scan they said it can take up to 2-3 hours because they have to do the booked appointments first x

Ahahaha 2-3 hours what a joke lol thats what they told me and i spent 5hours :growlmad:there with a grumpy toddler and a grumpy husband ( we came first and left last)

Yeah, I'm guessing its because its a busy hospital, everyone in 2nd tri has said between 30 mins and 90 mins including waiting time, so will just have to see!

with DS it was 20 mins inc bloods!! i have mine on thurs i hope its not 2-3 hours thats ridiculous!!

I know! I thought an hour tops. If I'm waiting 2-3 hours I won't be happy, I have a water infection so don't want to sit there with a full bladder for hours! Good luck with your scan! I can't wait, but I'm nervous!

Hi there - my actual scan was about 45 mins, then had to wait an hour whilst they checked by blood (the NT screening etc), then called in to discuss results for about another 10 mins. So all in all about 2 hours. It depends on whether they can screen your bloods there and then as well or whether you will get the results later on - if the latter then if your appointment is on time (mine was) I reckon you will be done in an hour.

Edited to add: I think my scan could have been shorter - 20-30 mins but baby was in annoying position and I had to have an internal scan as well because he/she was facing the wrong way! So took longer because of that - forgot that bit!

2-3 hours is crazy! I thought we'd be straight in and out. I hope mine isn't that long as DH has to make his excuses to get out of work for it and won't get away for 3 hours!

ahh that makes sense - we dont wait on the day for the results they send them to the midwife x

I remember when I had my 12 week scan 2 years ago The wait and scan did not take long at all so I think we would've been about an hour but they spotted Trisomie 18 so after this we were in hospital for ages so surely it should not be 3 hours? I guess they have to say this in case they over run?

I had mine yesterday.. Got seen early!! And was in the scan room for maybe 10/15 minutes. Out for another 5/10 mins and then 5 minutes getting bloods done. That was it... No idea why they would keep you 2/3 hours!?

Are they doing your booking in app at the same time? That takes ages - you need to fill in loads of paperwork, get bloods done, weight, height, lecture on breast feeding yada yada yada!

I would rather they did that - I had my booking in and scan within two days of each other! Xx

Every hospital appointment I've had they have been at least an hour behind. So I average 2 hours

I was exactly the same today - 20 mins tops xx

Mine was 1hr max...it was the first apt of the day though...hopefully they have given you a worse case scenario! Enjoy your scan! Xxx
