Hi ladies, I had my booking in appointment and scan this week and due to my bmi (32.5) I have to have consultant led care. My first one is instead of my 16 midwife appointment, what worries me is that they won't listen for babies heartbeat like the midwife does and the wait until 20 weeks is far to long to worry if baby is still ok!
Any experiences?

My BMI is too high too and I have to see a consultant too, but I see him the beginning of October, and i see the Midwife for my 16week check - up the end of october, if you're worried about not seeing your midwife, give her a quick ring and ask to see her if she says you wont :) Hope this helps a little.

HI I'm on shared care too!! My BMI is high. They told me the consultant would listen in at 16 weeks but if they called me earlier I could make an extra appointment with the MW anyway. I saw a consultant with my first because of a congenital hip problem I have and he listened in everytime I saw him
Good luck sweetie xx

ive got the consultant day after my 20wk scan due to high bmi and had a fit in june ive not been not what they do any1 no ?

I hope they do, otherwise I may have to call my community midwife -really don't want to as she is a bit of a stuffy thing.

Either that or it may be a private scan which I had hoped to have much later and so we could do 4d! The worry never stops does it lol!

Do you mean what will they do Hun? It willbe like a normal midwife appointment. They will listen in for babies heartbeat and palpate babies position. I found the apps with the consultant were no different. He looked at my scan for signs of the hip problem I had and tested urine xx

Ooooh thanks for that info - I will try to stop worrying about it now x

Your welcome, don't worry!! Oh and if you want you can refuse consultant led care and ask just to see a MW. I am wanting a home birth and if my consultant tries to veto it without good reason I'll ask to refer back to the midwife. Good luck xx

eek...i didnt know about this procedure...my bmi is high! Its 37

Im still waiting to hear of any appointments

I am on consultant led care due to previous complications. I may have just been lucky but in my last pregnancy the obsteatrician (consultant) was actually far better than the MW and gave a greater standard of care x
