urine test at doctor sillu question

i am at ny doctors office for a checkup with my gyn because I am 2 weeks late as of today and my blood test last week was negative. I came in early so that I could beat my doctor to it and do my urine test before my actual appointment and the lady hands me a paper cup and a test tube. I am then instructed to pee in the cup and pour it into the test tube. when did this become the new, cool thing? where's my good old fashioned sterile cup? I laughed just wanted to see if anyone else has done this
