US ladies- how do I get a new SS card?

Does anyone know how I get a new social security card for LO. I'm sure you couldn't just call someone, because of all the identify theft that happens (not sure if its different because he's a baby). Can I go to the hospital? There is a office that deals with this type of thing, but it's two hours away. I can go there if I have to, but I would rather deal with it a little closer to home.

If anyone has any knowledge of what I should so, I would really love to know! Can't believe I misplaced his card already

Unfortunately I'm pretty sure you have to physically go to the SS office for that. I am not 100% sure but when I had to get mine replaced I had to go up there..

Yeah hun unfortunately you have to go to the office. I had to go when i was pregnant and it wasnt so bad. Took about an hour but you have to get there early

They ordered mine from the hospital when they ordered his birth certificate. There was a box to check that said "Would you like a Social Security number issued?" and I checked it. It came in the mail a couple weeks later.

Yeah, I think if you lose the first one you actually have to go to the office to get a replacement, I guess it wouldn't hurt to call and double check first though!

Some of SS offices take appointments so you can just be in and out. Be sure to give them a call before you go.

There used to be a toll free number you can call to get an application for a replacement card mailed to you. It's in the government pages if it still exists, and actually you MIGHT be able to request one on the website i believe its www.ssa.gov
