I have a 96 Maxima that doesnt have those D ring things tucked in the seat to hook the carseat into..so I have to hook it with the belt...I have belts on both sides and the middle belt is just the lap strap..not the over the shoulder strap...so where does LO go..behind the drivers side or behind the passenger side or the middle..?

Any of those spots will do just fine. Generally behind the driver's seat is the easiest since you wouldn't have to reach all the way to the middle of the car or walk around the car to the other side to get your LO.

We have LO on the passenger side but it doesn't make any difference... Although the centre would be really awkward and I think it's not quite as safe - I seem to remember the nurse at the hospital making a comment along the lines of "glad to see you've not got the car seat in the middle, they've stopped recommending that"

Whether she was right or not it just makes more sense to me to have LO on one of the outer two to make getting in/out easier!

Eta I assume by d rings you mean latch? Most of the time if your car seat came with a base you leave in the car the way it is fitted makes no difference, it's more when if you have to strap everything in each time that it gets awkward.

Statistically the middle seat is the safest, then behind the driver. But read your car's manual to be sure it's ok to install in the middle seat, some won't allow it usually that's just if you are using LATCH (d-ring is different, it's the loop thing that comes with some seats to be able to tether them while rear facing)

yeah you can use the regular belt with the bases too and just leave the base in...but I just wasnt sure on the placement or if it mattered...hubby has them in his truck but not in my car ...hmmppfff

Our old car didn't have them and we put the seat in the middle, because I read that was the safest position. Honestly I liked it better because then I could sit, or put stuff on either side and also the sun wasn't as bad/hot because it was further away. I also thought it would be nice so LO could see out both windows. It never seemed a hassle to me, but I am fairly tall so reaching in wasn't a big deal.

Our new car has the LATCH system, but I read that when done correctly, belts are just as safe as the LATCH, just harder to install, imo. But once the base is in, it shouldn't really matter. I would read the manual to see what it says though. :)

BTW, love your LO's name :)
