Very embarassing first antenatal appt...

Just thought i'd say...

OMG YOU BRAVE BRAVE PREGNANT WOMEN HAVING BLOOD TESTS WITHOUT A CARE IN THE WORLD!!

I had my booking appt today and she had to fill FIVE tubes of blood, and i'm a complete needle phobe. Anyway, for the first time in my life when someone's come near me with a needle, i didn't jump over the patient bed and hide behind the doctor's equipment. I actually just let her do it. Anyway by the time she'd finished, i couldn't sit up, i fell onto OH's lap. I couldn't see and i couldn't hear properly, everything was muffled and i thought i was about to die and kept telling her i needed to sleep on the floor So instead she put me on the bed for 5 minutes. We tried to carry on but then she waved the tubes of blood in front of my face saying "see it's all done now love!" so i had to jump back on the bed again because i was going to be sick at the sight of the blood filled tubes *puuuuke*

Don't think she'll be counting down the days until the next time she sees me, eek

awww hun bless ya!! im not a fan of blood test but luckily im not phobic of needles i feel sorry for people who are though it must be horrible, but well done for going hun xx

when i had my first blood test a few weeks ago i was really scared but as soon as she put the needle in i was fine after the first tube was done the blood started coming out reallyyyyyy slow and my arm was getting more purple by the seconds, pinz and needlez too. that was the worse part and i only had 3 tubes of blood done
i got up after i had them done and was lightheaded and dizzy but after 2 minutes of standing up i was fine.
so im not no longer scared of needles but very scared of having a dead arm

i had mine done on monday for prenatal workup etc. i asked the nurse if 5 was alot and its not. she said for donating blood they take 80 vials. so yeah 5 is nothing. sounds to me like u had a bit of a panic attack!

I'm about to get my blood work done soon, thought it'd be a few days ago but they never gave me the lab papers. I'm terrified of blood work in general, not so much the needles just the entire process. I have to warn them that I tend to puke and pass out, it's not pleasant. The odd thing is is that I've actually had a number of blood tests in my day, and I've never gotten even slightly over the whole thing.

Even the rubber band they put around your arm makes me sick to my stomach.

Make sure when you get your blood drawn that you lie down! This is something they told me waaay before I was pregnant since I get light headed during drawing easily. Make sure you stay down for a few minutes afterwards too. If you don't have to fast (usually the case in pregnancy tests, other than glucose), make sure you drink plenty of water and eat before/after too. These tips have helped me get through lots of blood draws without my OH at all. Good luck dear, it's all for the greater good, that's what keeps me going!

I give blood regularly so I'm used to it and I don't mind needles either. I can only imagine what you must've been going through
