Hello...

This might sound a bit odd but i'm 36 weeks and for the last couple of days my girly bits have been really itchy! only sort of round the edge not inside inside (sorry if that's too much info) but it's really sore ... but i've never had anything like this before. i've heard people get thrush during pregnancy, is this what it feels like? if so, what can i do about it?

It is soooooooo uncomfortable!

Yes I had the same thing a few weeks ago , just drank loads of water and used baby wipes whenever I went for a wee xx

Natural yogurt down there is supposed to help - might cool and soothe it :) x

 thank you!!

i just googled it and it said something called "canesten" can help ... does anyone have any experience of using this? can you even use it during pregnancy?

xx

I've used canesten in the past - there is an oral tablet that comes with a pessary (which you have to insert up there) and you can also get a cream for the external itching. I'm not sure if you can use it whole pg so probably best to check with the your midwife :) x

I had this exact same thing! itchy on the outside, didn't itch at all inside.... At my last appointment and the doc checked, just to be sure. He said on the out side, it looked fine, but when he inserted the speculum, he saw yeast. So I used the stuff for a yeast infection, and it's all cleared up. I've had yeast infections when not pregnant and it felt nothing like this one. So you night ant to mention it to your doc or midwife just to be sure.
Good luck!!!

You can't take the oral tablet if you are pregnant but I'd check with midwife or GP, does sound like Thrush. The cream tends to clear it in a couple of days.

I'm having that problem too but I am also itchy in my inner thigh (knees up) & also my inner arms. I've seen 2 doctors who have put it down to pregnancy hormones! They recommended using a product like Soov and bathing in a coolish bath with baking powder which isn't very effective unfortunately.

The outer labia itching is driving me insane & I was awake half the night using a cool flannel, followed by applying Soov & I finally put Canasten cream on which did the trick although I'm worried I have developed dermatitis because of the Canansten cream so I'm not helping it in the long run :(

Apparently pregnant women have very sensitive skin so you could try using a laundry powder for sensitive skin, unscented toilet paper. Really, you should see a doctor because itching in that area could be a range of things.

I've had this problem for a while docs just put it down to hormones as it comes and go's and all tests come back clear, I use vagisil it works wonders, also I go to bed bottomless to let the air get to there it seems to really sooth it, also a hot shower or bath does the trick, oh the joys of pregnancy ey lol xx

Cut back on sugar n the blue canesten is brilliant for the thrush its external use only n check with your gp if its safe in pregnancy.

You can have the pessary during pregnancy if the thrush is internal...youll know if it is bcos you will have a thick whitish most likely smelly discharge and ure vajayjay will be sore also, if its itchy on the outside then chances are that the thrush is external, dont have bubble baths or wash down there with shower gels and soap just water, its best if you can run the shower head across your lady bits to clean urself, the canesten cream is fine, the generic name is called clotrimazole, if you havent had thrush before then go to gp and gp will prescribe you the treatment :-D
Also no sex until its cleared up as it can sometimes be passed to your man and can make you more sore xxxx

I had exactly this around the same time! It just went away after a few days. :s xx

i'd have your dr or midwife check you for yeast or bacteria. I was told that the creams/internal treatments are okay if needed because the infection can be more dangerous, but to not use them unless i know for sure its a yest infection or bacterial infection.

I had bad itching a couple weeks back and they swabbed and it wasnt yeast or bacteria, I was just told it was hormones and that they wouldnt recommend any treatments - just to keep it clean and dry down there or if it gets really bad ice it.

i used baby wipes instead of toilet paper and it seemed to help. And make sure you dry really really well after the shower/bath.

i was offered the oral tablet  but opted for the cream instead! it's okay i guess...
