Okay so Monday I went to the gyn to talk about my irregular cycles. He took blood and tested me for pregnancy (obviously negative since AF showed her ugly face that day), tested my hormone levels, and did a chem panel (checking thyroid, vit D, etc). The doctor's office just called and said I was Vitamin D deficient, which I have been before. Does anyone know if this deficiency has any effect on fertility? I remember taking a course of D before and it wasn't that pleasant...should I even bother taking it, if its not affecting TTC? I also mentioned that he checked hormone levels and asked if there was anything of concern there and she said everything was fine except for my D. So I guess thats good news?

Hi, this article seems to be saying that vitamin D does affect TTC but I'm not sure how serious to take a daily mail article lol. A normal multivitamin might be a good idea anyway. Good luck

Normal vitamin d supplements are not enough, I am 15% percent deficient and now on heavy duty supplements, the ones in the shop are not enough, see your doc.

Yes, I did. My doctor prescribed 1 pill a week for the next 8 weeks - going to pick up after work, was just wondering if it would help at all with TTC, thats all. Thanks :winkwink:

I guess you need to spend more time in the sun! You have not been trying for very long yet, so try not to be too worried at this point.

One study fron 2008 does show a correlation between vitamin D and fertility:

Haha, that is a very hard thing to do in Central New York where we see snow 5 -6 months out of the year!! Most people in NY are D deficient, my doctor told me that last time I was deficient. Thanks, I'm not really worried, just anxious. Want it to happen NOW lol...but I know it can take time, especially after coming off of BC...doesn't help that my mom said, "It only took me two months after stopping." jerk lol

I was researching this too. My MD tested my levels said I was deficent and told me to take 2000 miu/day. Near Chicago area, no sun here either! Anyhow, I have been taking more like 4-5000miu daily. Recommended from all the research I found. Some recommend up to 10,000miu/day. I figured I would start with half that to build up for a few weeks then go down to the 2000miu. The FDA recommended dose is 400-600miu!
The research also says it is VERY hard to take too much vitamin d. Not sure if it regulated me at all but I did OV about 10 days after starting it. Ive never charted before so I cant say if that was from the Vit D or just because I was watching this cycle. I havent noticed any negative side effects, research says it takes a month for full effects. I also found quite a bit of info with vit d and PCOS. It may be worth trying!

I was tested and I came back with a Vitamin D Insufficiency. Doctor said it showed up that I have a high heart insufficiency and told me to take Vitamin D pills. Said it was nothing serious in terms of TTC or that it would keep me from getting pregnant. The only thing keeping me from getting pregnant is the fact that I have one fallopian tube (lessens my chances to 50%). I have been taking Vitamin D pills (2000ius) that I purchased from Costco (Kirkland Brand). MD said that those were fine of the ones that he could prescribe me (which are the very same). So I bought them from Costco (because I get more in a bottle) rather than the 30days prescription.

Anyhow, so I'm suppose to take 1 pill a day (its real tiny, gel ball like pill) No side effects (at least nothing that I've noticed out of the ordinary), and I've been on them since March 2010.
