So I've read that vitex is a natural herb to help regulate menstural cycles...has anyone that has had long cycles (over 30days) used vitex and experienced a shortend cycle lenghth as a result? Right now my cycles have ranged from 33-43 days long. Wondering if vitex might help regulate my cycles at all?

My cycles were very irregular from 28-47 days or so and then suddenly i didn't get my AF anymore. I started taking Vitex (3-4 months) and charting my temps the last month on Vitex and my chart looked fine then and was 33 days long. After i stopped taking it my temps are all over the place, no ovulation or AF. You should stick to it it takes a while to work. It might take you more than 4 months to see the results in your cycles. I'm planning to start taking it again :)

Hi,

I started taking vitex/agnus castus after having 49, 51 and 61 day cycles and starting temping confirmed I wasn't ovulating. AF arrived a few days after I started taking it.

My cycles are still a bit irregular, but they range from 30-40 days so much better! It also appears I have PCOS so that probably affects it.

I took AC for 3 months - ovulated every time - then stopped and didn't O - started again and have O'd every time since. Still no BFP, but I'm hopefully starting Clomid on the next cycle.

Thanks for the replies!

I'm not sure what to do this cycle (currently on CD2)!!! Last cycle was my 5th ttc. I did use Soy Isoflavones last time and charted temp. and appeared to ovulate which is good. My friend just told me about vitex recently and I'm not sure if I should switch and try the vitex, give soy another try or just simply temp and opk's? I'm afraid to mess things up and cause an even longer cycle than last which was 43days.

I don't know much about soy - I've never taken it - but I'm sure I've heard you're not meant to take soy & AC at the same time.

Was the 43 day cycle with soy? What were your cycles like before?

I don't ovulate every month, but have a pretty regular 33-35 day cycle. I've used vitex on the odd month and every time I have, I've ovulated. I'm 6dpo at the moment so if/when AF arrives, I'll be taking AC again to see if it helps me ovulate again. Hope it works for you

I've also read not to take them together so wouldn't do that but just can't decide if I should switch to vitex before giving soy another try...I've read that like vitex, it can take three cycles of soy to get full effects. But yes, the 43 cycle was my first using soy. Before that they were 39, 36, 40, and 33. :-(

When reading about the two, I lean more towards vitex as I feel it seems more natural and helps on the estrogene as well as progesterone side - overall, just helping to regulate??

I think my biggest struggle right now is feeling that I may have jumped the gun on trying things to help conceive. Did I try "fixing it before it was broken" and mess things up worse? Or will I? I totally wish I would've temped before trying soy to see if I was ovulating on my own. I did get +OPK's in previous cycles and AF showed up about 14 days after each of those so part of me believe's I was???? BUT this last cycle, I got +OPK on CD22 but temps didn't confirm ovulation until a week later (ran out of OPK's so wasn't using them to see if got another +). Am I making sense wondering whether or not I should continue with trying vitex, etc or just see (through temping) what my body does on its own? I just worry casue if I don't do anything, that's one more month down the drain. But then I think "well, if vitex is "natural" will it hurt anything if my hormones are pretty balanced already?" Sorry for the long post!!!
