does anyone elses LO wake up through the night for water and not milk?

the last few nights joshua had been waking up at
12,2,4 and 6 but i thought he was wanting milk but he couldnt of as he only had an oz each time.

so last night i tried to give him just water.

he woke up at
12- had 1 1/2 oz of water
2.30- had 4oz of milk
woke up a few time between 3 and 5 coz pushed covers off him and got cold.
(now oredered a sleeping bag)
6.30 - had 4oz of milk then fell back to sleep in our bed until 8.

sorry running on.
does anyone elses LO waske for water and not milk?
is this ok?

Not really sure as i only ever gave Ruby milk when she woke at night. She was waking nearly every hour a little while ago tho and put it down to a growth spurt and teething as she was very fussy with her bottles and only took a couple oz's at a time xx

well i thought he wanted milk but thought he couldnt be wanting milk if he wasnt even having 2oz.

Infants should be getting ALL hydration from milk or formula. No water. Most things I've read says to avoid plain water until they are at least 9 months of age.

It might be easier for LO to get which is why he seems to like it better. I'd skip the water and offer formula. He'll take it if he wants it.

My HV ADVISED water when LO was waking and also as a drink during the day instead of juice. so many different opinions...who knows what to trust?!

Water is preferable to juice as juice contains so much sugar.

I've never given Hannah water, just formula....and she does wake sometimes when not hungry but we just comfort her and put her back down.

I don't give Alasdair water but my HV said that sometimes formula (or mainly formula, like us) fed babies need it. I think that is mainly when it is quite hot though so I'm surprised that he is waking up for just water Mrs N. Personally, I'd just go with the 1 oz of milk...Joshua is still quite little. Or you could just solve the problem by asking your HV what to do.

Maybe he just wants comfort? How do you know he really wants something to drink?

health visitor has said to me before that he can have water.

i tried cuddling him but didnt want it so offered him water and he took it.
last night he didnt wake until he wanted milk.

i didnt know if he was wanting water coz he had a dry mouth.
