my son is 4years old very health bar some minor mental health issues. he was born 7weeks premmie but fine.

james is happy and health he had a cold but been fine since. today we went to safari for few hours he had great time came home and he was asleep by 8pm. about 30mins ago i was getting ready for bed and just before i go to sleep i always switch off james' night light.
i went into his room and he was sitting up right holding wipes and a bottle of handgel. it took me a moment to see he, his face, hands, clothes bedding etc all soaked in blood i almost screamed i went mad shouting my partner as at first i had utterly no idea where the blood had come from we are guessing now a nose bleed but i am worried about the amount of blood. there was pools of blood on the bed pillow, blood spatter on the bottom of the sheets like flicked pain brush. i don't know what to do. i cleaned him up changed sheets and clothing and gave him pain killers now in beside him!
he's my only baby ever to live so i am worried sick.

stupid phone wont let me post more on OP anyways i don't know what to do. it seemed like too much blood to me. he says he's okay but i don't know. gave him meds but think since the bleeding has stopped there is little can do??????????

i'm really worried sick. In bed beside him now too on egde to sleep

OMG how scary! :( Your heart must have stopped when you looked in!
Are you sure it came from his nose? Has he had a nosebleeds before? I used to get really crazy ones when I was a kid and had to get veins in them cauterized because they would bleed loads and take forever to stop. Does he seem out of sorts or anything? Hope all is ok! hugs -

:hugs: Can you call NHS direct for advice? It may just make you feel a bit at ease. If anything else happens I would take him straight to A and E.

Sending big hugs to you both.xx

with the bleeding stopped i wasn't sure what they could do. my partner said i could take him to a&e but they think's i'm over worrying????????

I don't think you're over worrying at all. If it was as much blood as you say, it's better safe than sorry! I'm so sorry that's happening, good thing you're with him right now, keep a close eye and if anything more, personally I would take him to the ER just for peace of mind if nothing else.

Is there a number you can call 24hrs where you live? We have a line we can call and talk to a nurse and I always call if I'm not sure whether to take LO in or not. xx

I'd say go in, even if it is just for peace of mind. My daughter was sick and we went to emerg and they sent us home, and I still felt like things weren't quite right the next day so I brought her back and they ended up having to hospitalize her for a few days due to dehydration. So the long and short of it is, it likely isn't that serious, especially if the bleeding has stopped , but it is also probably best to trust your instincts and get him checked out, whether it is today or tomorrow.

Huge hugs!

A

Hope all is ok, I'd definitely get it checked out...just to be on the safe side :hugs:

I used to have horrible nose bleeds and the amount of blood is horrific. Honestly for the most part the amount of blood looks way worse than it actually is. If it was a nose bleed (sounds like it was) and he's acting normally I'd say all is good. I remember getting light headed and woozy sometimes when I lost a lot of blood. They always said it was fine and to relax, lie down and don't run around (in case I passed out). Think about how much blood is taken during blood donations and people walk right out. A good test is to take a teaspoon of water and put red food coloring in it until it's blood red, then spill it on a tissue or towel. It will spread like mad. My dr told my mom to do this and show me so i could see how little actually did come out.

Sorry to be long winded. It's odd that he had such a bad one if he's not used to it. But I suppose not totally uncommon. Also the smell of blood is horrid. If that's what he was smelling that makes sense too. Make sure he doesn't blow his nose or sniff too much so another one doesn't start.

Hope everything is okay Lynne. You're not over worrying.xx

Hope it's all ok, definitely get him checked out.

Although I will say, I know this will sound gross, when I have a period it always seems like loads of blood, I swear I'll bleed out! But in reality it's not, it's just looks a lot iyswim.

If there is a lot of blood and you dont know where it came from have him checked out, even the next day

I'd get him checked but it does sound like its proably a nosebleed. I had reaqlly bad ones when I was a kid and my nose could bleed for up to an hr and there'd be blood everywhere. And I can still smell and taste the blood now when I think back. Has he got a cold or does he pick his nose alot cos either could have triggered 1.

I hope he's alright today and you got some sleep xx

My brother used to get horrible nose bleeds (he just sort of grew out of it!) But apparently he had his first one pretty young. My mum was pushing him in his pram and she said everyone kept staring and looking mortified at my brother. And when she looked, he was covered in blood all over! Id take him and get him checked if only to put your mind at ease? x
I forgot to add, i had one (never had anymore) on a school trip when i was quite young and they actualy had to bring a chair so i could sit near the sink because it went on for what seemed like ages, and their seemed to be soooo much blood it was scary!

My little brother used to have horrendous nosebleeds to the point that i would walk into the bathroom the next morning as a child and sware someone had been done in in there.
He also used to cough up big clots of blood when he was having them because he couldnt swallow them as he was so little, the smell was very metalic and we have been on to hospitals because the bleeding had not stopped for 45 mins.
Eventually the doctor said that he could have his nose cortorised but it was very traumatic for a little boy so we didnt bother.
He still gets them at 25 when the weather bad (build up of pressure in the air) or if he is upset aout something.
The worst was when he was tiny becasue like your son it sounds like it came on very quick, my brother used to say all he flet was like a pop and then it would gush and we've had times when its been everywhere as its started when he was asleep.
Its worth getting check ed out hun but some people just suffer with them.
Also no-one else inour family gets them at all.
Hope your little boy is ok!
Sorry its so long, hope it helps xx

bloody nora!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! id of passed out, sounds like an utter nightmare. Take him to a and e and explain just be safe xx
