Hi any ladies know what the best type of trainer shoe is best for long distance walking? I have normal nikes atm but I need a new pair and walk on average 40/50miles a week but will be upping that amount soon.

There seem so many styles available but know nothing about what's best.

Thanks!

Get yourself some FitFlops.

They are brill.

I have the easytone (reebok) but I dont find them great for long distance tbh as they are quite heavy. I also do most of my walking at night and its starting to get cold!

I'm not sure hun, how about going into somewhere like Millets and getting them to recommend a brand. I had some Regatta waterproof trainers for walking in but they didn't last long so I'd avoid them.

Thanks xx

just so many different styles, high ankle, thick sole, leather, whats best?? agh! x

What type of walking and what type of surface ??

It will be road walking as I have walking boots for forest/off road. The Moonwalk is road walking so I am doing my training on roads. I really have no clue lol. x

Hi, I want to know this too.

I am going to try and get in the moonwalk too. I did it in 2010 and my trainers from them have now got holes in so need some new ones. (they gave me massive blisters too!)

Last time I did the north run I went to my local sweatshop where they fit them for you.

Is this your first moonwalk?

Thanks :D

Yeah first moonwalk and going to apply for the 26mile full moon, is that what you done? I am sooo excited lol. x

sorry im no help but i have reebok easy tones too an they make the soles of my feet hurt to the point they get a burning sensation very weird lol
i would however recomend going to a shop wre they know what they are doing and can help you choose a pair based on wht you tell them you need them for iykwim

The best trainers for running/walking on roads would be Asics. If you go to a proper sports suppliers (not places like JJB or JD) you can get fitted for the best trainer for you, they will have you walk/run on a treadmill and they will be able to tell you what sort of support you need, everyone needs a different sort of support so it is best to go and get fitted properly. My sis and I power walked and I have tried all sorts of trainers, Nike, Reebox Easytones, Fila, Adidas and I have to admit the best of the best is Asics, its like walking on air, but they wont come cheap, OH paid £120 :dohh: But tbh if you are going to be walking that much then you are going to need the support and it will be worth it

I am so glad you said this! My OH thinks I am exaggerating but they do burn my feet!

Thanks Sabby will go to a shop next week and ask x

Midnight_Fairy - yes I did the 26 mile one which I hope to do again (providing I can get a plce on Thursday!) It was a lot of fun but the training was hard. We did it in 7-30 based on our training it should have been 6-30 but it is so hard on the night as you have to overtake people and stop at crossings etc.

Top tip is make your estimated time on the application the quickest one as then you will start in the first batch and wont have as many people to overtake! (if you are doing it as a team everyone must put the same time down so you can start together)

If you have any other questions feel free to ask!

Fingers crossed we both get a place! (It was manic that morning last time I did it, was pressing refresh like a milion times!!)

I am on the school run so I will literally have to run home for 9:10 am scared I will miss out!

I will work it out though, desperate to do it!!

atm I do 10miles a day 4/5 times a week but will be upping this soon. Its just having the time to go on a 5 hour walk really isnt it!?

I may inbox you soon xx

10 miles a day 4/5 times a week?! You will find it easy!!! You are probably way ahead in the training front than most people!

I try to get out with DS most days but the most we can really do between feeds is 2 hours.

The top tip is only to do up to 20 miles in training as the crowd and 'feelings on the night' will push you the last 6 miles. It is hard work though but I think we only did one 20 mile walk before the actual one last time and that was about 2 weeks before. We didnt even walk 6 miles unitll about Feb/Mar so you will be fine.

Are you doing it on your own? Last time I did my training with my 2 friends but now I have Jacob I wont have time in the evenings and they are working in the day so I will be doing a lot of short walks on my own with Jacob in the day. I am dreading finding the time to go on long walks though!

Done a bit of research this moprning and 'new balance women's ww860wbl' trainers are meant to be really good for walking! I am going to go to Sweatshop near where I live, try them then get them off Amazon if they feel good!

Inbox me any time!

Thanks will have a look at the trainers, yeah thats what I am doing at the moment as doing school run then doing dog walk to the next village and back, it works out about 9/10miles but I am starting college so I wont have time to just do that so often, was thinking of doing 2hour walk in evening say 3 times a week and then a long walk on the weekend? Its so hard to train for long walks as it takes ages to walk anywhere lol.

I feel like 10miles is my limit at the moment though, I come home shattered and achy. Will have to up it gradually but no rush! hehe x
