Well in 2 weeks I have my 20 week scan, I am really hoping to find out the gender of the baby, if we find out I thought we should go shopping and buy some baby stuff after but my hubby thinks its a bad idea to shop so early.....is that too early to be buying baby stuff? I know viable is 24 weeks right?

I don't think it's too early. I have my 20 week scan at the end of next week and I'm going to start buying things then too :)

To be honest I've been buying things since week 8... Week 12 made my wallet cry after that scan and we've nearly hot everything and only just had 20week scan! We've saved a fortune though as I've been watching for bargains. We've pretty much finished the nursery now and it makes it all a lot more real xx

We've been picking up bargains since our 12 week scan. Just little bits and pieces, and our cot/changing table set because it would've been criminal to leave the shop and not buy it at the special price! We've got baby clothes, but they're all hand me downs my mums friend has passed onto us. Will start shopping more after our 20 week scan. My shopping time is limited because we don't live near a big town/city and my hubby is away for 2 weeks at a time, so I have to make use of the shopping time when we do go to the city.

i waited until after my 20 week scan and then went shopping that day.

Its not too early .. alot of people buy at 20 weeks or even earlier

I started buying few baby clothes at 24 weeks and then at 26 weeks (this weekend) we bought the bassinet.. and the shopping is stopping now till after the baby shower (end july) & then I will buy what I didnt get but needed..

I am planning on waiting till 20 weeks, I did relent a bit this week and got 2 bargains, but have hidden them at my mums! Buying things makes me feel a bit funny inside, not sure why as I know in truth - it can't make a difference to the outcome. x

We've been buying odds and ends since about 6 weeks.

Now after our 20 weeks scan we've kinda hit a wall as money bit tight after having new doors windows and car all in the same week so just recouping a bit of cash before buying the last few odds and ends.

I have a friend who went into labour at 27wks and all she had was a new born baby grow and a change bag. she said it was a nightmare as she didnt want to leave LO to go shopping so relied on family to buy things and it took a lot of enjoyment away from her.

I dont think 20 wks is too early. the risk of miscarriage isnt going to get any higher than it is now. i view it that i wouldnt wait until 40 weeks to "see if LO was ok" before buying any thing so why would I have the same thoughts about a baby being born early.

if hubby is really against it maybe you could comprimise and buy odds and ends now and bigger stuff a bit later so that you dont have to buy it all in one go if that makes sense

Before I had my 20 week scan I already had my baby's crib and the day I found out what bubs was I went and got clothes.

buy when you find a bargain - that's what i've been doing :)

and i have :
  • carseat
  • carseat adaptor
  • travel system (it's not here though - just ordered)
  • playmat
  • wipes

I'm still waiting until 24 weeks for pram/ cot etc but will start buying any bits under around£50 now I've seen my baby girl at 20 wks

Not too early at all :) Infact, you will prbably find it impossible not to buy anything!! Enjoy shopping :)

xxx

I have my 20 wk scan and straight after we going to buy stuff we cant wait OH has booked half a day so he doesnt have to be in work till 6pm so his card will have a meltdown x

I bought things well before my 20 week scan. Do it whenever you feel it's right, or whenever you find a bargain!x

i started after my 20 week scan and nearly enough finished getting everything Lol it sooo exciting so its not 2 early! ive bought

set of wardrobes and chest od drawers
6 avent bottles
steam steriliser
dummies
unbeliveable amounts of vests and slepp suits
cot
travel system
play gym
outfits,socks,hats,booties and 2 all in 1 coats
baby bouncer
changing mat....

still a few bits and bobs 2 get.... xx

I've been buying things slowly from ebay and some things from friends when I see bargains. If I see any good offers in shops I will buy there and then as it would be criminal not to buy at a good price but leaving the new shop brought things til after the 20 week scan so me and my partner can go together and have a nice day buying what we want for our baby :)

Picked up a free cot when I was 12 weeks just before the scan figured why turn down things that are free or a good price as I think buying things is not really going to affect the outcome of you pregnancy it is just a myth although I wont have any of these products around me for long atm sending them all to my dads to be stored lol

Happy Shopping Mommys and Daddys x

Hey

I understand where you are coming from on this, I havent bought anything yet at all and Im going for my scan on Monday. If all is ok then, I intend to start buying the smaller things and look for bargains.

Where I live, you can go and put deposits down on the bigger stuff and then pay the rest on picking it up, whenever you decide to do that.

Dont feel bad for buying after your scan, Im sure everything will be fine, just stay positive huni!

I've bought clothes, a moses basket & rocking stand and nappies and wipes (because they were on offer and, let's face it, you can never have enough of them!).

Going to get the "bigger" things after 20 week scan though. xx
