and it makes me want to beg DH to let me start DD in cloth diapers even more, but I should get educated in cloth before jumping in.

First question is, it looks like many of you ladies have diapers that have snaps on them, its that the cloth diaper itself? Or just a cover? When you buy them do they come in packs of multiples or singles? I was looking through a site and it looks like they are $24 for each, or maybe I'm just looking at it wrong.

Please don't be afraid to get into every little detail, I really haven't the slightest clue

First question is, it looks like many of you ladies have diapers that have snaps on them, its that the cloth diaper itself? Or just a cover? Can be either. A lot of the ones you see on the stash thread are one-part diapers, either AIOs (all in ones) or pockets. AIOs are like a disposable in that they are one single diaper that you just put on and off and wash, they come in either snaps or aplix (velcro).Pockets are siilar but the absorbant core comes out of the pocket of the diaper for washing and drying, pockets therefore usually dry faster than AIOs. Some people use 2 part diapers such as a fitted diaper with a waterproof cover over the top, or pre-folds or flats with a waterproof cover over the top. With 2 part diapers the diaper itself tends to be very plain, but you can get the pretty wraps (covers) to put over the top. Again wraps are either snaps or aplix fastening.

When you buy them do they come in packs of multiples or singles? I was looking through a site and it looks like they are $24 for each, or maybe I'm just looking at it wrong. Usually you buy singles, but many of the big brands like BumGenius, Fuzzi Bunz, Tots Bots etc do multi-buy packs which work out a bit cheaper. I imagine 24 dollars was for one diaper (though it sounds like it was an expensive brand). There is quite a lot of price deviation from cheap to expensive brands. I have some diapers I paid only 3 pounds for and others I have paid 12 pounds for. There are plenty of diapers here that could cost 20 pounds +, but I usually only buy when there are special offers on. I also buy some pre-loved (2nd hand) to save money. Even if you don't like the idea of buying pre-loved it is worth remembering that you can still re-use your diapers for another baby or sell on yourself to the pre-loved market, getting back some of the money that you have spent. Have a look at diaperswappers.com

A good beginners guide to cloth is here:

^ disco clare pretty much answered your questions.

As you're abroad, im not sure which brands are more prominent there, but yes there is HUGE price deviation. you can get ebay cheapies for a few dollars/pounds, and you can get custom Holdens Landing (for example) for more then £30!!!

Maybe if you tell us what sort of nappies you would prefer (easy all in ones, or maybe fitteds with wraps) and we can recommend some for you to research? I had an idea before i started of what i thought would be easier (AIOs) and i bought LOADS. Maybe you want to have one size fits all nappies, as they are better value?

Give us an idea and we can help :D xx

thanks ladies :)

I looked around and found some stores here on the island that sell BumGenius, FuzziBunz, and Grovia. I also found a lady online that makes some good ones.

A lot of online websites have very good deals on diapers and usually offer free shipping after you spend a certain amount. For example, until the end of September, lots of places have a special where you buy 6 Fuzzibunz and then get 2 free. Worth looking into. I'm in Canada so I always browse the canadian online shops because shipping is cheaper but it's probably the same kind of deal in the US.

I prefer snaps to velcro (more durable, doesn't stick to everything in the wash) and I have AIOs, AI2s, and covers with fitteds. AIOs are nice and easy to use but can be super expensive so you'll want to make sure you know that brand/s is going to work for you. Some stores offer diaper trial packages.

Covers and fitteds tend to be leak proof and awesome but I find them bulky and they take longer to put on a squirming baby. Still a cheaper option than AIOs though.

I'm in love with AI2s where you buy several covers (however many times your baby may poop in a 1-2 day period....depends how often you'll be doing the laundry) and lots of inserts...which are a lot cheaper! Then you just change out the insert when baby pees and same when baby poops unless the cover gets soiled....then you just put on a new cover/insert. I prefer the AI2s where the inserts snap into the cover because it keeps them in place. :)

I've just ordered several bestbottom diapers and can't wait to try them out!! If you go to Nicki's diapers:
https://www.nickisdiapers.com/
It's a US lady/site and she actually created the bestbottom diapers. She sells tons of different brands though. I've heard this is a super popular site for ordering within the US. :) Hope that helps!! Good luck!

Yes thank you. I went shopping today and got about 14 to start. I guess I amm a fan of the pocket diapers cuz that's the only ones I got. I was looking into buying more from online shops

If you like pockets, check out Justsimplybaby.com. I love her diapers. They're not very expensive, pretty and they work really well.
