for all you ladies planning on having a waterbirth at hospital, are any of you worried about the pool being taken?

i spoke to my midwife about this and she was insistant that it would be unlucky for it to be in use when i went into labour, but there is only 1 pool at the hospital, so it is really pot luck whether you get it or not.

i've always had my heart set on using a birthing pool and i'd be gutted if i got all the way to the hospital and was told i couldn't use it.

can you hire them and take them with you? i'm a bit clueless!

I've never heard that you can hire them out, I know you can have them at home though so look into in, you'd have to check with your hospital if they'd take it though. I'm hoping for a waterbirth, when I spoke to the midwife she said theres two at the hospital i'm at and to make sure to ask for it when you phone to say you're coming in, that way they can kind of reserve it for you and start filling it up xxx

you can hire inflatable birth pools which you can take with you . Im having a water birth at home in a inflatable birth pool - but im purchasing one , around 80-100 pound they cost . So depends on your budget but if you can buy one , you could do that so you dont have to keep paying out if your labour is long or late x

I also only have 1 at my hospital so I am not getting my heart set on having one just incase it is in use.
Im just gonna go with the flow, if its available then bonus if not Ill just have to get on with it
xx

i have been feeling exactly the same!!! there is only 1 at my hospital.... and i think their are about 500 babies born a minute in my area so i'm super scared that it will be taken!!! gonna speak to my midwife tonight at aqua natal see if she can ease my fears.

if not though, like Youngling says, i'll just have to get on with it (whilst really sulking obviously!!!) ha!

never too late to plan a waterbirth at home? then you will have your own pool you can keep forever xx

thanks ladies!

my midwife said we can't book them, so i don't think you can even call up to reserve it when you're heading to the hospital - which is REALLY annoying!

i'll ask my midwife whether the hospital allow us to take our own, as i am considering buying/hiring one. i'd actually love a homebirth but live in an apartment block and couldn't imagine letting my neighbours hear me in labour!!

if all else fails there are en suite facilities in every room apparently, so i could labour in the bath.. not sure how long they leave you in there for though, or how comfortable it would be! xx

I'm really hoping for a waterbirth!! I'll be gutted if I don't get one but there isn't much I can do about it.

Good luck for those who want one, I hope you get it! xx

I also want to have one, but there are only 2 pools at my hospital. I figure que sera sera, if it's meant to be it'll be ;-)

i really want a waterbirth but there is only 1 at my hospital too!!! (y dont they get more?!?!?) so im thinking about hiring one.
would be so gutted if i couldnt have a pool!!! x :blue:

I would also love to have a waterbirth, but once again there is only 1 pool at my hospital, and to be honest if i don't get in it... never mind lol :) xx

We have got 3 or 4 pools at my hospital and MW led unit. I intend to use one and I think I will be grumpy if I dont!! However, I think we all just have to go with the flow!
xxx

I am a bit. However, when we went on a hospital tour at the antenatal class the instructor said the pools don't really get used that much. She was surprised during the tour that she couldn't show us both pool rooms as one was in use.

This is why i am not making any plans whatsoever hun, as i would hate to feel disappointed xx

There are 3 at our hosp - 2 in the birthing centre and one in the proper labour ward in case you are higher risk. I was really up for the birthing centre as it's all really chilled out and there are 2 available but annoyingly found out I have Strep B today so they want me in the labour ward. Only 1 pool available there and I really hope I can have it. Luckily everything is all brand new (Chichester) so I will try and be grateful to just have a new room x good luck everybody, I hope you get your pools x
