Waxing During Pregnancy - Grows Back Thicker?

So I have excess androgens. And I grow fuzz like all over. It's fine and soft, but dark and a bit long, and in places I don't want it! I am a bit obsessive about it I admit, but it doesn't hurt or grow back worse, so I think it's fine! I usually do a fun (lol) combo once a month of bleaching/plucking/waxing. I know I have to stop the bleaching, buuuut...

If it gets worse along pregnancy, is it ok to wax it off? =) Particularly the lower belly/back/underboobs/arms/upper lip areas? Yes, I am that fuzzy, lol. I know bikini area is probably fine to do. I use sugar so no chemicals. But I am worried about it growing back thicker?

So far when I wax, it has grown back thinner and takes 3-4 weeks to come back fully whereas it used to be 2-3 weeks. But I know during pregnancy, cortisone and androgens increase and tend to make hair thicker/more of it... Also the whole growth cycle thing..

If I wax it off during pregnancy, will it grow back heavier after pregnancy or is that just a myth? I know waxing the stomach, cheeks, upper back, and middle chest isn't a good idea at any time since those areas DO tend to grow back thicker... but I'm worried that I will permanently alter the growth cycle to a pregnancy rate if I pull it out during that time..

Anyone know the science behind this or have any experience with it?

No I don't know the science behind it but wanted to bump this up and follow the thread. I have quite dark hair, thick too, on my legs particularly and I hate it. I wanted to know the answer to this as I have ezcema on my legs sometimes and so end up shaving but want to start waxing if my skin can get good enough as I'm having nightmares about being between shaves when I go into labour, and the whole bump being in the way and not able to shave! Arrggghhh!

Don't wax any areas that have "new" pregnancy hair on them- for example the belly.

The hormones in pregnancy cause hair growth in all areas- but after pregnancy & breastfeeding these hormones subside & the hair will eventually fall out.
Waxing stimulates the blood supply to the hair follicle, so it acts like a stimulus for hair growth- so if you "wake up" hair follicles during pregnancy- they will stay awake & will always be active.

I know it sounds silly, but the safest way to get rid of hair in pregnancy is to shave it. It's actually an old wives tale that your hair grows back thicker.
The hair above the skin is dead- so cutting it/shaving it will not affect the dermal papiila under the skin (the part that causes hair growth)
However many people think their hair grows back thicker after shaving because razors are at an angle like / this makes the diameter of the hair appear thicker- but it's just because it's been cut at an angle. When you go to the hairdressers & have your hair cut- it doesn't make your hair grow quicker- same principle for the body

Only wax hair that is usually present- i.e legs, underarms, bikini. Although it will be alot more painfull.

I am an anatomy & physiology teacher & teach sports therapy- but I also teach A&P to Beauty Therapists- so have a lot of info on stuff like this!!

Doesn't stop me worrying about every twinge, ache, sickness, lack of sickness- I could go on!
I even teach a unit on pregnancy & used to do pregnancy massage clinics- but all sense goes out the window when it's your own!:winkwink:

Ohh man. I've been wanting to wax my bikini area bc lately, if I shave I have to shave it not even 2 days later!! My poor razor is getting quite dull quick lol. But now I'm debating the waxing

Thanks for the answers!!

What about hair that was there before like PCOS hair :S I already had a fuzzy tummy.. it`s not thick but its dark and I`m pale! :( Can I wax that.. I usually bleach it.

Also my question mark key is broken so that`s why I haven`t used any LOL.
