Here's my two pence worth!
Is she alert? Is she smiling, responding, cooing etc??
no. . . but that could be because she's prem maybe? when she's awake she is awake and looking around but she sucks on everything and cries when its not me.
i gave her a bottle of EBM last night before bed and she took 2 oz then slept 4 hours straight. thats longer than she's slept for weeks. dont get me wrong, if she wanted to sit up and feed all night then id gladly do so, but she doesnt! she just yells until i produce the milk and will suck proper for 10 mins.
do you think she's falling asleep because she's weak?? xx
Well that's a different scenario then. I would have said that if she was then I'd be tempted to follow my instincts BUT I think in this case maybe you should see what they sugest at the next appointment adn take it from there. There is nothing to stop you from still BFing as well as giving her formula - I know you really want to carry on if you can.
I think some 'experts' are a bit too quick to blame BFing BUT on some occasions, when you look at the whole picture, there are good reasons for them suggesting some formula might be a good idea.
My sister's nephew Jacob is teeeeny!! He's been bottle fed from day one - he's been to see all sorts of specialists etc and there is nothing at all wrong with him. They concluded he is small. He's almost a full year older than my sister's lad (another FF fella) and Seth is the same size as him!! They wear they same size clothes!!
See what they say at the appointment honey. Have you given her formula in the past?? I cant remember if you said you have You could get some and try her with a little bit to see how she likes it?? I dont know if they will prescribe a special one under the circumstances
