So apparently mothers weight gain isn't of any relevance what so ever according to the midwife at my hospital

I am 55kgs since before I got pregnant and at nearly 29 weeks I have only put on 2lbs,my BMI is 19 I am quite tall at 5.7" my jeans are literally hanging off me and every one comments on it..

But apparently it doesn't matter that I feel I can't eat and have put on very little weight so I was worrying for nothing

Below is my 28 week bump!

Did your midwife mean to say that's is not an issue as long as all signs are that the baby is well and growing normally? That's what I'd guess she means.

Why do you feel you can't eat? If you are undernourished, I'd say that is something to be concern about for both your own and your LO's sakes.

I've lost 14 kg, ( 30ish pounds ) this pregnancy. It's not an issue, I was slightly over weight to begin with this pregnancy. My normal weight is around 60kg. So I havent gained any this pregnancy and no ones worried at all. Bub is growing healthy and I'm even measuring slightly a head at the moment :)

Is your baby growing normally? If so, then I'd be grateful that your midwife is not trying to make you feel bad about your own weight gain. I have a midwife, but I see an OBGYN every two weeks for a growth scan and she absolutely drives me crazy with her "your baby's perfectly healthy, but please eat fries". (that's actually something she told me last time... please eat unhealthy food... no thanks)
But if you are worried, you can ask her for tips on how to gain weight. My mw doesn't care how much I gain as long as I'm healthy, but at my request she made a few recommendations: eat faster, always take one more bite after I've started feeling full, and eat a lot of carbs, fatty fish, etc...

Well it was just a routine check up for BP & urine one check etc. and when I said that my GP had seemed slightly concerned about my weight and asked the midwife could she check my weight she said to me they never check the mothers weight that all that is gone out the window and that 2lbs is a good weight to have gained!
I feel I dont have any appetite and when I eat I feel really sick after couple of spoons and the smells of things just turn my stomach

I see so many posts on this about weight gain and that other women's midwives actually pay attention to their weight so I was thinking why isn't mine and I'd be afraid they might over look something that could be wrong with baby

Not all midwives at my birth center ask for the mother's weight. Mine doesn't ask anymore unless I volunteer the information. It's an unsettling attitude because we're so used to society obsessing over women's weight, I understand why you'd be worried.

I can relate to not having an appetite, for me it comes and goes... The days where the sight of food makes me feel sick, I drink shakes, I find it's easier to drink than eat sometimes. Maybe that's something you could try?

Honestly I don't completely agree with your midwife. Especially since you started ou at a normal weight. If you had been overweight to start out with that would be completely different. That being said, if baby is growing well than why worry? As long as baby is thriving, than it doesn't matter what your weight gain is.

Not all midwives pay attention to weight. I've put on a lot of weight and am at the upper ends of the normal gain range already. But I put on a lot last time too and I lost it all before becoming pregnant this time around. I just eat for two! And my weight has not been mentioned apart from my first appointment when my midwife said I'd done really well to lose all of the baby weight from my first pregnancy. I guess I'd expect weight to be monitored or mentioned if a woman was at either of the extremes - losing a lot or gaining a lot and it was effecting the health of either mum or baby.

Have you had a recent scan to check the development of your LO? That would put your mind at rest I'm sure.

Well i really don't care about my weight either way, my concern would be that baby might not be growing and might be affected by my lack of appetite and her relaxed attitude kind of annoyed me but I suppose she knows best!

My MW also doesn't keep track of weight gain unless the mother is concerned about it or there is something specific they are worried about. The size of your bump doesn't really mean anything either - I was smaller in all my pregnancies but had gained 15+lbs by that point. The only way to tell if the baby is growing well is by a scan (though they can also be off).

Though if you actually can't eat anything??? That is definitely a concern IMO.

I see an OB and he doesn't keep track of weight. I think I was weighed at my first apt and then not again till the 36 week appointment.
