In black and white, she looks perfectly normal. Just like all of the other pictures I have of my son.
For example:

A nice round head.

But when they switched to 4-D, her head looked like it had a hole in it. Can anyone explain? I wasnt at the doctor, just an ultrasound place... so I couldnt really ask questions like that.

See?

Any thoughts? :(

4D pics always look a little strange. As long as your black and white ones look fine I wouldn't worry...
Maybe you just had a bad technician?

My scan is like that too, in 4D it looks like one side of his head is missing! I didnt notice til I watched the dvd back. Ive my 21 week scan tomoro so gona make them check!

My little boy had these hole looking things in his head, I think its just either the way the angle is or maybe they are not fully developed yet. Didnt mention a concern whatso ever.
This was at 15+6 and that hole, is not his eyes, its near his ear area I believe cause he turns his head in the video

Okay thanks. Makes me feel better. :)

my sil was told this can happen due to particularly dense/awkward patches of amniotic fluid on the 4d, and not to worry. They would have told you if there was any issue.

That's great news that eveyone else noticed similar things... Must just be a strange fluke that occurs with 4D! Glad you're feeling better! :)

I was having the same issue with my 4D scan!!! Good to know everyone else is having it too

 mine too! Her head is perfect in 2d shots, but in the 3d shot the back of her head kind of blobs off. I was worried her brain was developing outside of her skull  but I'm sure they would have told me that at my anatomy scan, so I brushed it off.

The hole in the head or half the head missing is VERY common in 4D scans! It doesn't mean anything! The imaging quality just isn't great. Don't worry, your babies are fine!

I had the same thing as well when we had our 3d scan, there was a big black area on her head but the 2D scans look fine. Like other ladies said it can be that its not fully formed yet or fluid, but the tech told me it was nothing to be concerned about!

I think baby will be ok. If you're still worried about it maybe you can take in a copy of those pics the next time you have an appointment so he/she can talk with you about it? I'm sure it's nothing. :hugs:

My 4d scan was exactly the same way. My mother told me its what the babies soft spot starts out as, and that the skull will begin to close in more. Most babies still have a soft spot even after they are born. Idk, if shes right but it truly makes sense to me. I'm not concerned about it since all 4d baby scans I've seen around 16-18 weeks look similar to mine.

My doctor did some adjustments to the image, changing the plane of the ultrasound, that made things disappear and reappear. I wouldn't worry, especially if the 2d looks so good!

mine have all had that too, it always is where the fontanelle is so i personally think it has something to do with that as the skull still needs to move and squish to be able to get out of the birth canal. dont worry i havent seen any 4d scan without it

Its just shadows and also if something is in the way like a hand then it shows up as a black area. That what she told us at our 4d scan. We saw weird stuff but also he looked normal. Ultrasounds always look odd.

I was told that 4D scans are best after 23 weeks for good quality x

On our pic shes hugging the side of my uterus :)
