Hi Everyone...its been a long time...but I've been on a roller coaster with highs & lows in my life.

I am planning to have ICSI soon. The the clinic I will be attending advised they will transfer 2-4 embryos. I longed and long to have twins. Can someone share some light/info as to what my chances are to have twins, making my dream come true.

ICSI is our only options & DR advised in the first attempt he reckons I'll successfully attain pregancy (99.9%)

Please give me some info....

Cheers

Hi Tulip,
Firstly, without wishing to be the fun-police, I would be seriously cautious about that 99.9% success rate your doc is suggesting for attempt number 1.

Most couples succeed within 3 attempts but some also take longer than that. My doctor says the chance of success is generally 35% per cycle, and that increases to 40% if you transfer more than 1 embryo (but I don't think the %'s keep going up the more you transfer.)

Of course I really, really hope you get it first shot. :hugs: I'm just passing on what I know, so hopefully you're not too disappointed if that doesn't happen.

Anyway, on to the good news, given that you want twins... I'm told that transferring 2 embryos gives you a 50% chance of twins. If you transfer 3 or 4, I'm not sure how much that increases, but I'm guessing it does.

Good luck with your cycle :flower:

theres always a chance you could have twins with more than one embie transfered, more so if you have blasts transfered.why are you longin for twins???carry twins is hard and a high risk pg.i was in bad pain form about 14wks due to spd and didnt return to work.i found that the pg its self was harder then after having them.especailly as i was carrying over the summer and offen had to stay at home because i ended up house bound because of all the bad pain i was in.we nearly had to call an ambulance out to get me out of bed one day as i was in agony and couldnt move.dh actually ahd to physically pull me acroos the bed to get up lol
where do you love??im guessin not uk if you may have upto 4 embies put back.i really wouldnt have that many put back,it really is a really risky pg if more than 2 stuck.have you ha tx before??i really would not take anynotice of doc saying you would def get pg on first go lovey, seriously dont get your hopes up too high as this rollercoaster is a very hard one to ride.tx is not 99% success rate.more like 30-40%.gl

Thanks girls for your replies...I am just hoping to have atleast one baby. I don't know why I want twins, but I long dreamt I had twins. so maybe that's the reason.

Do you guys think atleast I will stand a chance to have a baby with 2 or more embies transferred?

I am just praying for a miracle.

MrsJA - I hope you give us the good news - fingers crossed...
Hayley - thanks for the msg & also am glad to know you have twin boys!

Hey Tulip

I'm in the UK and my clinic has restrictions imposed for those under 30 and if there are no discernable fertility issues for the female, they will only do 1 embryo transfer. I was told that for my age group (34) having 2 embryo's transferred gives me a 35% chance of success. My clinic also went on to say that if i get to blasto stage - then i have a 70% chance of that elusive :bfp: although they will only put 1 embryo back as there is no increased chance of success with a multiple transfer.

What my clinic did say is that the more embryo's the more stress so have multiples heightens your chances of miscarriage. At the moment my chance of miscarriage up to 9 weeks is 25%... but hey, i'm focussing on the 75% chance of a viable pregnancy! :happydance:

Blimey Tulip - I'm inclined to think your Dr doesn't know what he's talking about 99.9% is just ridiculous! Any clinic with rates that high would have a waiting list so long, you'd never get an appointment! I can't believe any clinic would even make such a claim about guaranteeing a fertilised egg from ICSI, let alone a blasty or BFP - sorry.

I'd also like to agree with what Rachelle said - multiple embryos don't really increase your chance of a BFP, just the chance of having multiples.

Sorry to be a negative Nancy, but I worry you are being mis-led by the people you need to trust the most.

Ok guys..thanks for all the advise. I had all the tests done which was quite normal and therefore I guess the Dr just said there's 99% chance of achieving pregancy with ICSI. But I am not getting carried away with what he said. I have decided to go to another clinic to actually have the procedure done, however, was advised 2 or more embies can be transferred. I am just hoping to achieve pregancy with my attemps ( I don't know how many I will have to go thru).

I am really glad to be in this forum to meet all you wonderful people and hear your opionins. If everything is all good with me & DH with ICSI our only option, can someone say I can get pregnant!!! Realistic though...

Cheers
Tulip

That makes more sense; your DH has some sperm, and you have all the right bits - so there seems to be no medical reason why ICSI won't work for you. How many attempts is a different matter - hopefully you'll get lucky the first time,

Best wishes to you and your DH - I look forward to hearing of your progress.

Thanks Leilani...this forum is great, I look forward to logging on everyday. I will definitely keep you guys posted on the happenings. I am looking at having the procedure in Jan-Feb...fingers crossed!

Cheers
Tulip
