When my menstrual cycle finally started up again after giving birth to my son (I was breastfeeding so it took awhile) it was around 30 days. For the past 2 months including this month it's gone up to 33 days. It's now CD 34 & no AF yet, no spotting either. I'm hoping some of you might have some experience in this but what can cause your cycle to change so drastically? I haven't gained or lost any dramatic amounts of weight within the past 2 months, so I know it can't be that.

Hi, I'm not sure but I do know lots of things can cause fluctuations - stress, day light levels, change of work patterns, age. My cycle didn't start back after Ds for over a year, and only then when I stopped overnight breast feeding. I notice a blip every winter, I'll have a couple of very short cycles before getting back to usual. It would also change dramatically when I was switching between day shift and night shift.

I agree with Rags any little thing can change your cycle ! I notice in your signature you had a CP so sorry , could this have anything to do with this cycle being so long ?

My sister was having trouble each month with her AF and the GP advised her to go on the pill for 6 months to try and regulate it , which it did and she got pregnant 2 months after stopping it.

I do think that's probably the reason my cycle was a lot longer this month. It ended on CD39. Which I've honestly never experienced before. I don't do well on birth control, all the hormones cause me to have issues including weight gain. I have heard great things about it though as far as regulating your cycle and actually making it easier to get pregnant after you stop taking it.

It could still be your body getting over the CP, or just simply after having babies our bodies change a lot as we know maybe this is the new normal cycle for you ?. I would maybe see if you could speak to your GP though possibly get some blood tests .

I totally get you with the birth control . I can only take the combined pill . I bled constantly after having 1 shot of depo and crezette was just as bad!

I hope you figure it out and things settle down for you !

I think the CP was the reason for a 39 day cycle, normally it's 30 days after i had my son. Before him, it was 28 days. I have an appointment for my annual on the 18th, I'll ask for blood work then.

Yeah I would go and just get checked over ! Hopefully it’s just another one of those things and it will settle back down!

Is it possible to change the cycle on purpose?

There are several reasons that can cause a change in the cycle. For example, use of birth control pills can help regulate menstrual cycles. I also think it'll be interesting for you to read the information about progesterone. It is used to properly regulate the menstrual cycle and treat unusual stopping of menstrual periods in women who are still menstruating.
