What do you think of the name Samuel?

I have my girl name picked, Ruby Mae. I am undecided about a boy's name though. I quite like Samuel, but open to other suggestions.

it's a lovely name but people shortening my name to Sammy irritated the life outta me....

I LOVE the name Samuel, but then I'm biased as my son is a Samuel. He's Sam for short and only really Samuel if he's naughty! Samuel Karl if he's been super naughty! His name was an easy choice as it was my grandads middle name and has always been my favourite boys name.

I like Samuel although I prefer it shortened to Sam. My closest friend from Uni's sone is called Sam/samuel and he is gorgeous!

I like it too. It's a strong, traditional name and can be shortened easily. Very similar to Benjamin (Ben) in those respects. I'm also a fan of William but there are too many ways to shorten it, I like to keep things simple!

I am thinking Samuel Ryan.... I wouldn't mind it shortened at home as a nickname like Sam etc. But would keep it official at school...

No offense, but I hate this name. I love "Sam" for a girl, but not for a boy. My brother-in-law who's 10 is named Samuel, and ...well, now that we're having a baby, he'll be Uncle Sam. Hilarious as an American!

Samuel is my son's names so i obviously love it! We mostly call him Sam, or Sammy. It suits him and we often get comments on what a nice name it is!
