What does the Day 21 progesterone test show?

Ive been seeing a specialist for 3 cycles now. My first cycle my prog. was very low at 2.4. The next cycle it was at 7. And now this cycle it was at 13. This is good that it is raising right? Could this mean I could possibly be pregnant?

I hear when you are pregnant your progesterone levels double. I am currently on Day 22 of my cycle.. so I still have some time to wait yet.

Bloodwork on day 21 is typically checking to see if you ovulated. This is assuming you ovulate around the "normal" day 14. I'm not sure what your levels need to be to indicate that you have ovulated. I think that day 21 is still pretty early to show pregnancy, unless you ovulated early, like day 10ish. Did you doctor call to give you those #'s?? Were you able to ask for any info from him/her??

hi there. my cycle is short, I usually ovulate around day 12/13 and i have my period no later than day 25. I try to get as much information out of the nurse as I can, but I feel like they never really tell me that much. I kinda feel weird slight cramps going on the past 2-3 days, but no period yet.

Hmm. Maybe try to Google what Progesterone levels should be after ovulating, and if pregnant?? I'm not sure...my day 21 bloods showed that I didn't ovulate. :nope: Obviously, since here I am on day 50 with nothing! :dohh:

Anyway.....Good luck!! :dust:

Hang in there. there are many things they can do to help make you ovulate. How long have you been ttc? How long are your cycles usually?

Thanks. :)

I've been TTC since December, went off bcp in October. Cycles have been between 37 days - 61 days. Going back to the doctor next month, I'm thinking at that point I'll be given something to help me ovulate.

Hi there! I am on day 31 of my 45 day cycle. I ovulated this last week and today I went in for my first blood test to see my levels as well. I don't have any idea what the range should be, but I am hoping to get a call from my doctor tomorrow so she can tell me i ovulated (cross your fingers). I saw some values online, but I don't know how accurate these websites are. I just know that the values get higher when you are in days 14-28 (of a normal cylce) and even higher when you are pregnanct. I think the best bet is to talk to your doc about your results! i wish you well and hopefully you get a bfp!

the inconsistency could have to do with just going off bc in October. I know it can take up to a year for your cycle to regulate after going off the pill.

doesnt hurt to make an apt with the dr./specialist for a follow up and to see if she can help regulate your cycle. I know chlomid is used alot nowadays to help with producing follicles and ovulating. Maybe your dr. can do a follicle study on you - this will help you pinpoint when your most fertile time is. I am having this done and it has really helped me. I havent gotten pregnant yet (obviously), but I feel like Im working towards my goal. I thought I was ovulating day 10, but turns out (after the follicle study) that I am ovulating day 13. I still have some obstacles to overcome (low progesterone and a shortened luteal phase), but I am hopeful I will get there. and you will too!

Yup I'm going back Sept 27 (day before my bday, yuck!). When I was there in June she told me to chart for 3 months and come back. One quick look at my charts and she'll see that I'm not ovulating! :haha: My bloodwork showed nothing abnormal, other than not having ovulated yet. So that's good at least!

What's a follicle study?? Looking at your follicles at different points in your cycle??

Im unsure what the progesterone level needs to be to indicate ovulation. My dr. told me that they like to see progesterone at a level of 15 on day 21. anything lower than 15 means they will supplement with progeterone if pregnancy happens.

goodluck SXB with your levels and testing!! Im going on my 3rd cycle w a specialist and I can tell you this - the #'s change each cycle. So if you get bad #'s the first time, they can do alot to tweak things and get your numbers looking better. My dr. put me on Vitamin D (because I was low) and ever since then my #'s have been better. Not sure if it is considence ?? But i will take it!

what are you charting? Basal body temperature?

a follicle study is where on Day 3 of your cycle (yes, day 3 of your period, yucky!) they give you an vaginal ultrasound to see if how many follicles you are producing. Then on Day 10 of your cycle, you go back in for another vaginal ultrasound to see how your follicles are maturing. it is pretty neat. There is a screen in the room and you can see your ovaries and uterus and follicles on a monitor. A follicle is considered mature and ready to release/ovulate when it reaches between 18mm-24mm.

i know that sometimes they use chlomid to help produce follicles (if you are not producing on your own). Chlomid makes your body think you are low on estrogen, which makes you produce more estrogen = production of follicles.

Yup BBT. The link is in my signature (but be warned, it's pretty boring, haha). Follicle study sounds very cool!!

hi girls im new to all this progesterone checking but i am now 2 days away from af and i have a short cycle of 26 days so when i had my progesterone test done on cd21 i was already 7 days past ovulation and i am now 11 days past ov and have a 13 luteal phase and have boobs from hell and have just had a call today to day to say that my levels for progesterone were 45 so is that good. Im 46 and have been trying with my new partner for over 5 years but were refused help because i have had kids already but he has none and i always wanted more but NA no help they just refuse so we have been trying on our own so fingers crossed this is a good thing as this is the last time i will be trying even tho i dont look my age and all the blood tests are coming back as tho my body is younger than my years i still feel this is enough now.
Sorry for the long post i think i just needed to let it all out any thoughts would be great xx

Hi ladies!!

I fell onto this post and while I am no whiz on progesterone or anything I have done quite a bit of research about it and thought I might be able to help.

Progesterone is what is needed to sustain pregnancy. It is what basically holds the baby in until about the 12th week when the placenta takes over. If your progesterone levels are too low and you become pregnant you will not be able to sustain the pregnancy and you will more than likely miscarry. My miscarriage was due to my progesterone levels being at a .5 at 5 weeks. Around 7-days after you ovulate...which is why the doctor will usually do the test at Day 21...your progesterone levels will spike. If you become pregnant the progesterone levels will stay high. If you do not get pregnant than they will drop...everything will be released...and you will have your period. If your progesterone level never rises then that is an indication that you did not ovulate.

What doctors like to see during a 1st trimester is a progesterone level of atleast 15. Anything under 10 is too low. The level of your progesterone does not indicate pregnancy. Just whether or not you have ovulated. My last 3 cycles my 21-day progesterone test showed my progesterone levels well into the 30's and I didn't get pregnant. It is your HCG level that will double everyday not your progesterone. As long as it is over 15 your doctor should be happy.

I hope this helps!!
