Past few night LO (6weeks old) will be crying she's clean dry comfy everything so I offer her the bottle she latches on straight away n sucks for like 5 seconds then start goin crazy thrashing around n pulling away from the bottle n pushing it away from her.

I don't get it is she hungry? She burped so I don't think it was wind or anything but its like she acts like she wants the bottle but then goes nuts like she reallllllyyyy doesn't want it.

I don't understand what she wants!!!!

Anyone???

Could be silent reflux- milk soothes their throats so they have a bit but then they're not hungry so they don't want the bottle. Does she have any other symptoms? Robyn gets it now and again and you can hear her bring something up and swallow it, she then wants to nurse but only for 5 seconds. It's trapped wind that causes hers, even though she's a good bumper, Infacol helps her fart and she's more settled if we give that to her.

Or it could just be that fussy time of evening!

Sounds horrible, have you tried winding her? Or could it could be colic hun? hope you get it sorted soon. Not nice for you or LO :hugs: x

I second the silent reflux, sounds very similar to how my dd is right before she throws up (she has reflux)

I have infacol but I'm not giving it to her because she burps easily I didn't think she needed it.

Do you think I should start giving her it? If it is reflux would the infacol help?

I feel bad cos she seems so annoyed n upset but I can't really do anything :(

If it's reflux, sometimes Infacol makes them spit up (but that's actually better for them than swallowing it back down!). It's not actually for reflux, just trapped wind.

With Robyn, you can see her go red, bring her knees up and strain to fart/poo, then she does a wet hiccupy sound, gulps, then screams and roots. I think the pressure when she's trying to fart causes the reflux in her case!

With Infacol, she rarely goes red and strains when farting or pooing, she gets a serene look of concentration instead! When I burp her or sometimes just randomly when changing position, she brings up a mouthful of milk and spits it out, but that doesn't bother her in the slightest!

I might give the infacol a go and see what heppens its worth a shot.

She also goes all tense n does a painfull sort of cry before she farts then will be a bit more settled after.

Does infacol work straight away or does it take a few days? Like if I start giving it to her now before feeds and she still acts the same tonight will that mean it hasn't worked or can it take time?

Sorry for all the questions! Lol I appreciate your help

Infacol takes a few days to work iirc

My LO used to do this when she was overtired. She used to hit me and allsorts!! I kept thinking she was hungry but she just wouldn't latch onto me at all. Reading these previous comments though she may have had reflux!

Could well be wind or DD2 did that when she needed to go up a teat size she was only about 6-8 weeks so we brought the varied low teat but she wouldnt cry in pain or anything just seemed to get frustrated that she couldn't get the milk fast enough lol

I suspect she's probably desperate for some comfort sucking (6 weeks is a growth spurt/fussy period) but then gets gassy b/c she doesn't really need the extra milk. Have you tried a pacifier or your finger?

This is exactly what Amy does!

I think it sounds like reflux too.

With amy i was considering getting medication as it was really bad for a few days, however she was eating lots that day so think that made it worse. She now spits up more often but its not a whole feed or anything and is hard to burp. She goes bright red and squeals during a feed and thrashes her head about!

But its calmed down to only the occasional time now.

Might be worth speaking to the GP for you, as the chemist cant give infant gaviscon before 1 yr old? x

both mine have done/do this...I use oval and try my best to push through it. it's tough!

LO does this. I originally thought it was reflux, but he's fine at most meals.
I think he only does it when he's very tired and wants to sleep. It's like he wants to comfort suckle, but doesn't want to deal with the milk. He sometimes pulls away, cries a couple of times and then falls asleep mid-cry.
A few times I have put my hand on his cheek. He turned his face into my palm and fall asleep that way.

With Robyn, the Infacol was instant! She burped, farted and did an explosive smelly poo within seconds of us giving it to her! But it does have a cumulative effect, so using it with every or most feeds means it doesn't have that same sudden effect each time, it just means she's less fussy overall. If we skip a couple of doses then I notice her getting fussier and have to remind myself to give her a dose next feed.

Mine did and still does this at times. Never got to the bottom of it but its a pain when he does it. I know its not his fault and he's obviously uncomfortable for him but it can get really frustrating. Xx

My LO does a similar thing at times. She has colic and Infacol has definitely helped with this. When she's suffering with it she does like to comfort suck so I offer her a dummy which helps and settles her down. Might be worth trying one or both of these?

Hey guys thanks for all the advice

With the comfort sucking iv offered her the dummy but she doesn't seem to want that either :/

My first thought was that she was overtired aswell.

Iv started the infacol so mayb that will help yesterday she was really bad n she hadn't slept much, but she's napped a fair bit so hopefullyy that will make a differnce aswell

Guess ill just have to try a few things and see what works, iv gotta take her to get weighed next week so ill mention it to the health visitor n see what she says.

Seems common tho poor bubbas

My LO wouldnt take the first dummy that we tried, knew she liked to comfort suck as she would suck my finger till the cows came home! Tried a different shaped dummy and it worked a treat! Might be worth considering?

How long does she stay awake for?

I had a colic/reflux baby - one thing I found, is that overtiredness can really mimic the same symptoms (and overfeeding can be a short-sighted attempt by them to calm down but of course causes more pain).
