Another one of these threads! Health visitor told me we will be in for our 9-12 month development check soon and it's got me worried that Rio may fall behind!

I'm sure they will take into account his 8 week prematurity but I just really don't want him to end up being too far behind. We go to play groups and they don't take into consideration the 2 months when we are put into 'age groups' for acivities and sometimes I feel like I have to tell people in the group he was 8 weeks early because he doesn't do some of the things their LO do.

So yeah, so I get an idea, what does your LO do? Or if you have an older baby what did they look for at the 9-12 check if you had one?

Thanks! X

I got a letter in the post and a form for the 8-12 month check. The appointments had a long waiting list and she was due to go the week before she turned 1. After hearing people say it wasn't worth going I just filled in the form and returned it.

The form had things like can your LO roll and sit up. Do they pick things up. It also had a section on hearing. Asked if your LO had the hearing test when born and do they look when they are called, do they jump at loud noises and things like that.

I was told there are a load of you in a room and you basically sit and wait for the HV to come to you to discuss things (someone compared it to the weigh in clinic). My friend went yesterday and said she was waiting for ages and wished she hadn't gone.

I was planning on going then decided I get one day off during the week to spend with my LO and there are other things I'd prefer to do that day.

Hey Hun,
Aiden is crawling, pulling himself to standing and cruising furniture. I've only ever seen him get himself into sitting position a couple of times so not sure if he's grasped that one yet but he doesn't really try or sit for long lol. He's just started saying mama and dada occasionally after saying baba for a few weeks, but mainly still likes making screechy shouty sounds. He is good at feeding himself finger foods but doesn't seem to use his finger and thumb to pick stuff up yet. With toys he's just bashing them or putting them in his mouth still. He isn't keen on sitting nicely at bounce and rhyme/music baby groups like the other babies lol.

We had a 8/9 month check a few weeks ago and he scored well on most things. Scored lower on babbling (he wasn't at the time) and the fact that he didn't put his feet in his mouth (he's never even tried, he's just not interested in his feet).

Thanks. Where about are you? My health visitor has told me that it will be a one on one, where they can observe rio in a room and it'll take around 30-40 minutes. So sounds different to what you described? X

Thank you :) rio doesn't babble so I'm expecting them to say he is behind with his speech.
He only commando crawls, can't sit himself up from lying down but will stand then drop if he wants to sit lol. He pulls up and sort of cruises, and will let go and stand unaided for a few seconds. He can clap and give a kiss when asked. I think that's pretty much it.
He went through a phase of eating his feet around 5 months but hasn't done it for ages since, I wonder why that is part of development!?
And he will eat finger foods well, but forgets that there is actually food in his palm and doesn't quite understand how to get it out to eat it once he has bitten down to his fist lol x

I am in NW London.

Yours sounds completely different. If I was offered what you have then I would have gone.

Guess it is all down to budgets as to how these things are run.

Yeah that's true. It's a shame every mum/child isn't offered the same though. We all pay our tax and NI wherever we live x

I forgot to say that Aidens is a commando crawl too. He goes onto his hands when he's on the tiles but prefers elbows and he's pretty quick. He isn't clapping or giving kisses yet but we try every day. He puts his hand in the air like he's waving. Lately we have been doing high five and he seems to love that. Aiden does the food in his fist thing sometimes too, he eats quite fast and always has the next handful ready but often can't get it in his mouth if he's got it in a fist lol

The HV has done all of Aidens checks at our house. Oh, they also give lo a small block to see if they can pass it from hand to hand...Aiden put it straight in his mouth! Haha, the boy loves to eat! 😊
