Please excuse the ignorance, but what exactly is a sweep and when do you have one?

Midwife puts a finger up your foof into your cervix and 'sweeps' the finger round to separate the membranes, it usually results in your plug/show coming away and helps to bring on labour... but only if you are ready. They tend to do em when you are due or overdue x
