Just curious about what (typically) happens at your next appt after 20 weeks?

At my last appt, I was about 19 weeks, and I advised my Dr we were going out of state for 6 weeks. She said that was fine and scheduled me to come in a few days after we get back.
I remember her mentioning something about the next important (she didn't say the word important, I can't remember what word she used, but same thing) appt would be at either 25 or 28 weeks, I can't remember which one she said...
So does anyone know what I could expect? I like to mentally prepare myself ahead of time just in case it's something having to do with needles or something that may upset my stomach.

Oh, I'm in the US and I'm 24 with my first pregnancy, not high risk, if that makes any difference. Thanks, girls.

Are you Rh negative? If so, it could be the RhoGam shot that you'll need at 28 weeks. Could also be the glucose screen for diabetes.

Beyond that, I can't remember anything special happening between 25 and 28 weeks.

I just had my 24 week check up. Same thing as always, measured my belly and listened for the heartbeat. Not sure what happens at the 28 week appointment. I know she did mention that I will need to get a blood scan for iron deficiency and something else, can't remember what. You might need to give the blood at your 24 week check up but I had already gave blood before my appointment do my Dr. Said it was ok for me to do it next month.

I don't think I'm rh negative and the last time I gave blood was at my 15 week appt. That was when they were doing the screening for Downs, CF, and other birth defects.

I hope I don't have to do another blood draw. I'm a little wimp when it comes to needles.

Just had my 24 week, basic stuff. My next appt at 28 weeks they are doing a glucose test. That's probably what they were talking about.

I think you girls might be right about the glucose test.. What is that, exactly? I keep seeing post about people not passing it..?

Probably glucose test. They check your blood sugar after you drink something sugary. If you fail it they do a longer test to see if you gave gestational diabetes.

Ahhh so I have to do a blood test AND drink something gross? Greaaaaat. :growlmad:

I believe my glucose test is at 28 weeks. I start biweekly appts at 24 weeks (normal low risk pregnancy, I think it's just standard procedure for the OB practice). I can't think of anything else that would be important during those weeks.

Lucky you can afford to be a wimp.

My doctor checks my TSH (and sometimes free T4) at every appointment, so I never get out of the draws.

It's not too bad :flower: just drink a syrup, wait an hour then have your blood taken...mine came back sooooo far off the scale she's not even bothering with the 4 hour test
I have to have mine done every 4 weeks anyway to check for toxoplasmosis (because we have cats!). At my 24 week I was tested for protein in wee, toxo, iron levels, glucose and a full blood count... Other than GD test it was normal appointment

How much syrup? I remember once having to drink a HUGE glass of this awful tasting orange drink for an MRI scan. Oh it was so nasty and I puked it up!

You get tested monthly for toxo?? We don't have cats this time so my doctor isn't bothering with the testing. However, I lived in a house with 5 of them in my last pregnancy and never got tested for it. The doctor I had then only told me to not go near the litter box and make sure to wash my hands every time before eating to avoid it.... Strange how different places require different things!

Yep, over here in France they test you every month for it if you even mention the word cat during any appointment!!! To be fair they test you for anything and everything they possibly can any time they have a vial of your blood... Unfortunately for me, I also fail every thing they get me for, except toxo (phew).... I keep asking her to quit the testing for random things as it just worries me even more but they love a test!!!

It tastes alright, it was about 150 mls, not much at all really and you an drink a glass of water after to take the sweetness away....honestly, its nothing to be concerned about:nope:
