Its really stressing me out recently that i am unable to eat certain foods. So far in pregnancy ive been ok and had near to no symptoms at all except for sore boobs!
Just the past couple of weeks my appetite has taken a turn for the worst and i am really struggling to decide what to have to eat as there are so many things that i cant have what i would have ordinarily had pre-pregnancy!

the food thing is really bothering me as i know i should be eating healthily for baby and stuff, but just don't know what to eat! Pre-pregnancy my typical meals would be gammon, chips and egg (runny yolk!), beef roast dinner, roast chicken dinner, spaghetti bolegnese, lasagne, beef steak etc, etc! HOWEVER, the past couple of weeks i have been completely off meat and vegetables!! SO, what meals can i have that are 'ok' to have during pregnancy and i won't be heaving at the mere thought of putting into my mouth! I have resorted to sandwiches and pasta and chips recently, which i know isnt balance enough for baby and gets me upset that i cant eat the foods that my baby needs!! :(

So, i guess what im asking for is an idea or any suggestions for any meals i can have that will be a little more balanced and ill be able to eat!

i had this problem aswell i just cooked a few things and smelt them, if they didnt make me want to vomit then i ate them and somethings i just thought about eating and if it didnt make me sick then id have that just try that method, sorry if im not much help and it is tricky knowing what you can and cant eat because of all the rules there are now

I feel your pain! I'm not so bad as I was a few weeks ago--I'm vomiting more, but I don't have the food aversions as badly.

I've been living on baked potatoes, bland things like buttered noodles, and easy to digest fruits like watermelon.

I just want to say that you can exercise some personal judgment/discretion when deciding what you can and can't have. For example, I still eat runny yolks and sandwich meat. I haven't had a problem. I spoke to my midwife who explained the risks in numbers. I decided the risk was quite small and am just fine eating these things in moderation.

Good luck!

Pureed soups may be a way to get some more veggies. I like potato, leek, and zucchini. You can throw in some spinach too and your stomach might not catch on!

hmmm, well make sure you're taking your pre-natals, and that will help supplement some of the things you might be missing. I found that I'm eating and drinking tons more fruit and fruit juices which has great nutrients. Thinks with beans (like burritos) will help you get your protien up, since you haven't been eating meats. As for veggies, I usually sneak lettuce or cucumbers into my sandwiches. You can also find fruit juices that hide a serving of veggies inside that you can't taste. (I don't know if you can find V8 V-fusion where you live, but that's helped me get by immensely.)
I think your body will crave anything that it's really missing and needs... so make sure you follow your cravings- at least that's what I've been told. lol!

I hope this helps. I totally can sympathize!

ahhhh, this is great, your all coming up with ideas i'd not even thought of!! think soup noodles and bakes potato are the way forward!!

Does anybody know how long this will last??? Don't think i could cope the whole pregnancy!!

I havent been taking pre-natal vitamins but they sure will be on my shopping list tomorrow!!

I was a bit funny about runny egg yolk in my first 12 weeks and just havent come round to having it yet, but am feeling a bit more relaxed about the thought :)

i really appreciate your replies ladies, its good to know im not the only one!!

i ate paste butties hahaha ....and anything i cud stomach really. your body wont let your baby do without. just make sure ya drinking plenty of fluids so you dont dehydrate.
how about trying fruit smoothies? x

I can't keep prenatals down, so I've been taking children's gummy vitamins, the don't usually give me the horrible nausea and burping after wards. The kids dosage on the ones I bought are 2, so my mw said to take 3 a day. Also make sure you are taking B-6, many women with hypermesis turn out to have a B-6 deficiency.

Another thing that helps me is protein meal bars. I eat them if I'm getting hungry and everything sounds gross. They don't taste particularly good, but they do seem to ward off the sickness for a few hours. That is one food I have yet to get sick on.

If you can stomach it--cottage cheese on the baked potato gives you an added boost of calcium and protein too.

Eat what you physically can. I had horrible sickness and food aversions between weeks 5 and 18 (and lost 2 stone in the process!) I couldn't stomach baked potatoes - the smell made me wretch. I could manage to keep down chicken noodles, ready salted pom-bear (but not regular crisps), grapes and milk. Pretty much anything else made me sick. Not very balanced at all!!

I'm 25 weeks now, and the baby's growth is fine and all the organs and bits were developed and in the right places at the last scan. It seems from what I was told that as long as you're eating something, that's the main thing. And junk food is better than no food at all.

My only real worry was for iron deficiency, as I don't eat much meat anyway and I felt quite lightheaded towards the 18 week mark. One of the first things I craved after the sickness went was bacon and sausage, so I was probably low on iron stores. I just make sure I eat some meat every day now.

Dehydration is obviously best avoided (although I couldn't keep down water either for most of the time I was sick. Really cold orange capri-sun, however, I could just about handle. Just watch for the amount of sugar you're consuming!)

Hope you're feeling better soon - it's miserable when you're struggling with sickness!
