On average how many gifts do you get your kids for Christmas?

We usually go a bit nuts and they end up with 15-20 each, plus stocking. But this year we really want to cut back some, so much of it doesn't even get played with because they just get too much when we do that. So we know for sure that we are getting each of them an ipod touch, but how many gifts on top of that would be good? I was thinking like 5 others that are toys then we always do pjs on Christmas Eve and then their stocking too. But it really doesn't seem like enough. What do you think? They are 3, 5 and 7

Id say 5, one main gift and 4 smaller ones. I dont count stocking fillers though as they'll be little cheapie bits and pieces.

Amelie has way over 50 but I went way OTT :(

Wow 50!! And I thought we used to go nuts lol. Is that all big stuff or including a lot of little things and clothes too?

I know Landon really wants some Halo toys so I was thinking I'd get him a bunch of the action figures (like 5) and then 2-3 vehicles then maybe a big lego set or some other toy..then his ipod touch. Just doesn't seem like much but I know those are the things he would want more than anything else...I just feel bad

Then Casen and Hayden both really want a new baby so I think I'm going to order them these twins

One with dark hair and one light, both boys and give one to each along with these car seats each

And then this stroller to share

Then find them each probably 3 more toys and their ipod touch each too. Just seems like so little compared to previous years. But I really want to get them things I know that will be played with and they want the most.

Ive not bought her any clothes, no. It includes proper gifts and doesnt include stuff like sweets  Shes not got any presents over £30 though :) Most are around the £15-20 mark.

Yeah I guess it gets a little harder as they get older...toys get so expensive! But the boys also don't play with much. I think probably half we bought last year got played with that day and never touched again, it was such a waste :(

I have cut way down this year to. I havent really counted what Dec has but I was guess maybe 10 presents, most of these are small apart from a play kitchen, a garage and a remote control twister car. Dan is getting a bike and maybe a new tv, with a few small bits and pieces. I am just starting to realise after 12 years that 75% of the presents I buy at christmas remain untouched and are given away to make room the following year.

I think what you are planning on getting is great, you may even find you will have 3 boys engrossed in their I-pods all Christmas day :)

That's what I'm thinking, I know they are going to flip over the ipods. Hopefully after they open those they won't care they only opened like 6 things lol

annabelle has got lots of little bits really her main present is a tag reading thingy so she got a few books to go with that then playdough and cutters etc pjs clothes socks etc then a few more toy bits but not mega expensive i like her to have lots to open but prefer to not spend the cash LOL

Santa is bringing Harvey 6 toys, a box set of books, stickers and the rest will be stuff he needs like clothes, shoes, backpack, cups, spoons, etc.

I was asking OH this the other day for next christmas when the baby is here.... I'm alot more into christmas than him, and he felt 25 was fair, and I was quite happy with that, although maybe a few extras!! :D xxxx

I've just been discussing this with OH and he thinks it's ridiculous to spend £100 on a baby for Christmas. I don't think he understands that a nice outfit from somewhere like mamas and papas costs around £20-£30, and toys aren't necessarily cheap. He seems to think £50 is more than enough to spend on a 3 month old at christmas. I'm sorry but I'm not buying any child of mine 2 presents for its first Christmas. How awful would that be?

That said, I wouldn't ever spend more than £300 at christmas on a child of any age, be it 3, 13 or 23. *shrugs*

I really really don't see the point in buying/spending too much esp for younger kids/babies. They generally leave most of it unplayed with or choose the wrapping instead lol.

It is nice for them to see a big pile under the tree though so I absolutely wrap some of their bigger sized clothes and this year even a pair of shoes:winkwink: so after the initial excitement of opening, I know my money has gone to good use. of course they still have some toys to play with too!

we are getting Ella her first doll, pram, cot and highchair from us. Santa brings everything else and they are just small things such as books, puzzles, aqua doodle mat etc.
She is getting spoilt for her birthday as you know! :winkwink:

We're spending £100 because it's all we can afford. So far I have two gifts totalling £40 (i'm not very prepared ) but I'd like to get him a nice wooden toy box but I just can't find one I really like :nope:

Thanks ladies! I think we'll do more clothes than we usually do, we usually just do the Christmas pjs and no other clothes really so maybe I'll get them a few outfits which they do need at the moment and wrap those so it's more wrapped but useful stuff instead of all toys

Connors got about 20 presents off us but then we both have big families so will end up with around 40-50 presents. Ive saved up alot of boots points over the year though and had around £100 worth of points so i havent really spent that much

So far Harley has 7 from me. But I have quite a bit more things I plan to buy her, plus my parents will get her a few and so will my sister

When mine were little I used to give them between 25 and 30 each ... but we don't really have an extended family so they only get stuff from us for the most part

Now they are young adults and the stuff they want is more expensive they get maybe 10 to 12 each - that includes things like a tin of sweets etc but not their stockings (yes I still do them stockings :dohh:)

Money is always tight though and I tend to make it go further by buying pre-loved DVDs and computer games from ebay or CEX/Game. I've even bought Ipods etc 2nd hand before as long as they are in great condition  My kids are fine with that - they would rather have 3 pre-owned games than 1 new one :) and when they were younger they just didn't realise :winkwink: They also always got necessities like socks and pants in their stockings and PJ's and other clothes mixed in with their fun presents - stuff that I would have had to buy them anyway.

I've personally bought Kaylum 15 presents for this year - well 15 that I'm giving him .... I have brought a few others as well  but I've given those to Tattie for her to give him so that DH doesn't realise quite how over the top I've gone
