What should i see at a 6+6 scan?

Hey hun i know i am replying a little late here but i noticed your scan isn't for another couple of days so thought i'd chip in!

We had an early scan at 6+6 (although i thought i was 6+5) and after doing tonnes of research about what we might or might not see decided to prepare myself for not being able to see the heartbeat as it isn't a guarantee at that stage, but decided as long as LoveEgg was measuring right for dates and in the right place i'd be happy.

As it turned out he/she was measuring a day ahead and the HB was clearly flickering away on the screen...it was amazing.

This is one of the pics they printed out for us. I wasn't expecting it to be so clear since it was only 8.3mm in length! But i think it's a pretty good pic really:

Hope that helps.

I'll keep everything crossed for you that it's good news :hugs:

Hello,
I went for an early scan at 6+5 and all we could see was a yolk sac. The Obstetrician could see a shadow which he thought might be a fetal pole but said it was inconclusive. He said I could only be about 5 to 5 and a half weeks which I knew wasn't right. I was worried that I was about a week and a half out so early on. He said he would book me a follow up appointment 10 days later. (it was actually 9 days later because the 10th was a Sat)

At my follow up appointment I had a blob with a strong heartbeat. And I was measuring 8 weeks exactly. So my dates were absolutely right all along. I hope you see a hb, but if you don't it's still ok, so don't panic!

Thanks girls, Rebaby OMG wow what an amazing pic so early, i would be sooooooooooo delighted if we got a pic like that on Wednesday, i cant beleive how good it is. Did u and Lazy Leo have an internal scan? XXX

Thanks hun :hugs:

She tried scanning me abdominally and said "i can see something there but it's not very clear" and decided to go ahead with the internal, which i had been a bit apprehensive about (i had this idea i would definitely start spotting after it and got myself a bit worked up over it all in the lead up to the scan) but when the time came it was really fine and i just wanted to know what she could see! It was uncomfy but no problem really.

Fingers crossed for you!

I had an internal scan about a week either side of your date... first one we just got to see a blob... second one we could see the sac and all sorts of layers, and we could clearly see the heartbeat. They didn't lead me to believe it was possible to see any more than the blob in the right place for the first one, and I was glad of that.

I'm hoping they do an internal i think i will throw up if i have to drink 2 pints right now, also my bladder is so weak :dohh: i'm also scared about bleeding after internal, so i just pray she is gentle. XXX

The internals I had... the motion was towards my bladder/belly (and boy did I know it with cyctitis!) rather than my cervix. There wasn't any sensation of pushing there/that way. I wouldn't have expected it to cause bleeding.

I had a couple of internals last year and have had two this pregnancy. None have been anything more than slightly uncomfortable, some I even barely felt at all. In one circumstance the mw asked me to cough as she inserted the probe which naturally made me laugh and helped break the ice a lot. I've never bled after any of them and they are reputed to be perfectly safe and won't damage the pregnancy.

In fact, after having had mine I found I was able to think about having :sex: again as well, because if they can put that in and move it about without it doing any harm, then sure as eggs are eggs hubby can't do any harm lol!!

I know exactly what you mean on the :sex: side, i was frightened to do it before seeing the heart beat flickering away on the scan.

I'm hoping i'll get another scan on friday when i see the specialist (i will be 10weeks then)

Thanks, i had an internal scan a few months back so i'm not really worried, just paranoid about my cervix as it still low :dohh:

We had a scan at 6 weeks and didnt see hardly anything, then at 8 weeks could see blob and heartbeating!
