So, saw the midwife today for my 36 week appointment. Whilst I was there I asked predicted weight at birth etc and she is predicting no bigger than about 7lb 2 really which i am happy with (i am quite petite), however she did then go on to say it has a good size head....?!?!?. I said, 'when you say a good size head, do you mean a BIG head' and she looked up at me from writting her notes, raised her eyebrows and said, yes i think this baby has a good size head...(obviously not wanting to come outright and say it to me)

What does it mean a good size head? It came across as 'you poor thing, this one is going to hurt' hahahaha

Any ideas? Is a big head to body a problem, I am still measuring small 32cm today at 36 almost weeks, but she is not concered about this...just said on a couple of occassions, 'but good size head'

:haha:

I dont want to sound funny but you're measuring 4 weeks behind and shes not worried, i would of thought she'd of sent you for a growth scan? not sure about the head thing tbh?
sorry im not helping much lol x

I wouldn't worry too much hun, I was told at my growth scan that my baby has a ''larger than average'' head circumference  but all baby's have pretty big heads anyway in comparison to their bodies!! Aren't their heads like 1/3 the size of their bodies? I'm sure I read that somewhere!! x

At one of my midwife appts, the midwife said the babys head is big , but then im also measuring bigger for my dates , at 32 weeks i was measuring 34 , n now at 36 weeks im measuring 37cm... I think i might just have a big baby although im very petite :/ AAH!

I know, thats what i thought, i said a few times, are you sure thats ok to measure only 32 at this stage, she said yes...

My last appointment with her was 32 weeks and i was measuring 29cm - she said then when i see her next we might need a growth scan, we will see how were doing. But she was on holiday at my 34 week appointment and i saw another midwife who measured me at 33cm?!?! But now back down to 32cm with usual midwife (i know different midwifes can measure different).

But yeah she wasnt worried that i was measuring small still as i had had growth since the last time i saw her...?!?!

I wouldn't worry hun, it's all predictions and guesstimates. Even if the head does feel big the skull squishes to get out of the birth canal (this is why babies have a soft spot on their head)

if your measuring 4 weeks behind why hasnt she sent you for a growth scan? I got sent for a growth scan at 32weeks because i was measuring 5weeks ahead. I had a small baby tho, it was just because im short the baby grew out the way more. Xxx

I dont know, i can only presume that its because there has been growth since the last time i saw her, 32 weeks was 29cm and now 36 weeks was 32cm so there has been 3cm growth in 4 weeks. That is all i can think. I said are you sure thats ok and she said yes...?!?!

Thats really odd, im sure baby is fine but if i was you id push for a scan just to be sure x

Now im worrying myself...reading my notes from today, the fetal heatbeat was recorded at 120bpm, thats very much at the bottom of the 'recommended' scale isnt it...?

if you are worried hun I would phone the community MW team and speak to a different MW, the number should be on your notes if not just call labour ward or the main switch board and ask to be put through

Fetal HR can be 110bpm according to my mw, but phone and check if you are unsure. Good luck xx

If you're worried hun then push for another check up. I just realised she is estimating sizes from just feeling u though? I don't think she should be doing that at all!! She can't say baby's got a big head by just feeling your bump!! U would need a scan so they can get a circumference measurement for that sort of estimate!! Same with weight estimates really, duno how she can just guess!!! x

Really dont worry because thats when you will think things are wrong!

if the midwife didnt seem that concerned with the measurements then dont panic! if u feel that worried , maybe ask for a second opinion from a doctor or that? or be adament u want a scan to check everything is ok.....

Im not reli sure about the scale regarding heartbeats...doesnt it relate to the gender or there is some myth about the gender.. Lol! I shouldnt worry , if there was a concern im sure she would of mentioned it!!!

Stay positive anyway :)

Thanks ladies, I am sure nothing to worry about, if there was she would have referred me on today, I am being paranoid now, this maternity leave has me thinking too much...haha

Thanks for all your replies, I am sure my baby, with the big head haha, is just fine in there xx

If they have had no worries with babys growth they probs wont worry 2bh the measurments aint percise... and as for a good sized head its proberly meaning he/she is healthy and the head is the right size/shape etc x

I would ring the delivery ward and see what they say? Some midwives are a bit rubbish (mine definitely is) You shouldnt get yourself worried, I'v just looked on this graph thing my midwife gave me and you are measuring inbetween the average percentile line and the lower one. When my midwife explained it to me she said some people have bigger babies and measure on this line (which is the one above the average) and some have small ones (which is the one you are measuring just above) at my last appointment my midwife said she predicted about 7lb and im on the average line so it doesnt really make sense.

I would ring the hospital, they might scan you (it will be nice to see bubs again :) )

Ha ha! My son had a big head, I got those comments at both of the scans and was petrified! But when it came it it, I don't think it made any difference at the birth! And he still has a big head - but he is a clever little boy so it is full of brains :)

Thanks hun - yes it would be nice for a scan to see bubs, again :cloud9:, but then i also dont want to waste their time if there is nothing wrong. I am going to the hospital on Wedensday for my antinatal class so thought i would take my notes with me and show the midwife there and see what she has to say, at least i will be there, and if there is any even slight worry from her surely she would say, well while your here, best to get checked, thats what im thinking, or do you think i should just call them

hahaha, oh a brainly little one i will be having then too, thats good, takes after its daddy not mummy then, haha x
