Hi

I really need the advice and knowledge of what to expect nxt!
Thank you xxBabyC

heya hun,

i was referred to a private clinic, but under nhs funding (as we don't have an nhs ivf place here) and when i went to my first appointment it was clear that the funding hadn't been applied for.

We discussed the issue with the clinic and they said that if we paid for it, the nhs would refund us (which they did). I was under the impression that if you went private through choice, the nhs wouldn't fund you if you're already on an nhs waiting list, but if you got a BFN on the private treatment, the nhs would fund your next cycle. If you get a BFP, then the nhs won't fund you a second cycle as you already have a child / children (does that make sense??!!)

It could be different from region to region - i know that the central government are wanting to get rid of pct's which will affect the number of nhs funded ivf cycles everyone is entitled to. I'm sure i;ve read somewhere that this will happen end of this year, beginning of next (can't remember where i read that, sorry bud). This will affect the ladies more who live in PCT's where regions fund more than one cycle. I won't be affected as i'm only entitled to one free cycle anyway. (unless the government raise everybody to 2 or 3 free cycles - wishful thinking!!!!)

Defo speak to your doc about the financial implications and how it would affect your place on the nhs, but also give your private clinic a bell as they too will be able to help you understand the politics.

Apologies if it doesn't answer your question directly!! I have a habit of confusing people more!!!!

good luck cherub :hugs: x

Hi there
We went private for the inital consultation - just a chat etc after my GP had done blood tests and SA this inital session was £180 but following this he put me on the list for a lap & dye (due next month) after that who knows?

Hiya, I didn't get a private IVF treatment but went for my initial consultations and lap&dye privately. In Sussex

Wow, I was very impressed!! As in, no waiting lists at all! In fact, no waiting time at all! I had scan and bloods done the same day - not having booked them!
Then lap&dye was booked in a week's time! I think on the NHS I would have waited for months for it!

So from the experience point of view it was absolutely amazing! I would love to only ever get private health care!

Hi - I'm glad you've got an infertility appointment, rather than the gynae one, as this would probablyhave delayed any treatment further.

It really is worth going private just to discover what is going on and what your options are, though, as I've mentioned previously, the chance of you getting any treatment on the NHS is pretty slim.

If you have to pay for all your treatment, are you willing to do this? When you speak to your GP ask him exactly what you are entitiled to get - though he doesn't sound like the most helpful man, so maybe ask the fertility clinic if they have any info they can send you.

We've gone private for all of our treatment so far as the NHS waiting list was soooo long, although we're still on that in case we need it. Everything is so much quicker privately, at my first consultation he did an ultrasound and I was booked in for my lap and dye the following week. We went through our work insurance for everything up until going for IUI - totalled up the bills the other day and the insurance company paid out £4500 - no wonder they said they weren't paying anymore!! Although because it was being paid for think I had a few consulatations I probably didn't really need and wouldn't have had if were paying for it ourselves at that point. I had IUI last month and that cost us with everything included about £2200, the actual treatment was £1000 but we had to pay for the drugs on top of that and then both had to go for blood tests again and they alone for both of us were about £800. We haven't got to have the bloods done again when we try IUI next month so that at least brings the costs down a bit. It's not cheap to go private but its worth it, has definitely kept me sane, I would have completely lost the plot I think if I was still waiting for NHS. If you need to know anything else just let me know xx

We cudnt afford that! Our eldest is away to Queens Uni nxt wk!
Thats gonna b real expensive!! Halls are £95pw!Anyways......................lol
Positive positive thoughts Baby!!!
Do you mind me askin what insurance you had that covered that much?
Hope you dont think im being nosy!!
Thanks BabyC xx

Hi BabyC

The insurance was with BCWA and is my husband's work insurance, we just had to pay £100 excess which was a right result. Because they didn't know what was wrong they classed it as "investigative" so they paid for it all, although they got a bit stroppy about my last 2 consultations but agreed to pay them as they were the last ones I was submitting - not surprised they said that when I added it all up!!

Lots of babydust to you xx

Gosh you were very lucky lol
That was a lotta money!
Im not sure just how much we can afford yet?
Our eldest boy is goin to Queens for 3years nxt wk,so we want to make sure he has all he needs those 3yrs!
Im still waiting to hear back from Consultant,he will b the same Doctor that i was referred to in the beginning,so kinda begrudge payin for his company so to speak!lol
But sure if it gets us a result thats all that matters
Thanks
XX BabyC

Ha ha - I assumed your GP was a man - as they were being slack at getting back to you, and I figured that was more of a male trait!

I've had no end of communication trouble with my fertility clinic, it really is crazy that these "educated" people can't get their facts right - surely everything is kept on a compter and it only takes a few seconds to access the right stuff!!

Private treatment (basically the lack of waiting time) really is the bee's knees. Think I need to go and get some lottery tickets!

i think the 5 month wait is pretty standard - loads of us had to endure it! i wish i'd gone private though, if you have the means i'd say go ahead and do it! best of luck x
