Hi all

You may think I'm being stupid by asking this question as I already have a child but my waters broke and then I had contractions, so I went into labour straight away there was no graduation of signs. So i am unsure what signs to look out for this time. I don't want to ring the midwife every time I have a twinge or a pain :dohh:

So that's why it would be good for myself and people in my situation what signs to look for :flower:

Thank you

Xx

Regular strong contractions that got so bad I couldn't walk or talk through them. I had been losing my mucus plug with bloody show for 3 days before I went into active labour.

Period pains (which turned out to be mild contractions) which got worse and worse :)

I've never gone into natural labour , and I've been having pre labour symptoms for weeks with this baby ... I think there are so many things that can be the start but then frustratingly things can die down. I've had nesting sessions , leaky boobs , sorry  , clear outs , regular tightenings with bad menstrual cramping and then it dwindles to nothing!! So now I am just chilling out and waiting and not getting excited about any little sign lol. . . .

On the tuesday i started having period like pains and by the evening they were more painful and more frequent so at some point early wednesday morning i went to l&d but was told i wasnt dilating at al!
This went on for 2 more days with the contractions between 2 and 5 mins apart i was checked twice more but wasnt progressing then on thursday night i went back to l&d and demanded they give me something!
So they gave me petherdine (sp?) but after that the pain got worse but i know now that i had gone into active labour and after being left alone all night i was checked at 10.30am on friday and was 7cm dilated!! I had my baby at 4.54pm that day! :)

Sorry that turned into a long birth story then! :)

I don't get signs. Both times, I simply woke up with mild contractions and eventually they got stronger and I had the baby that afternoon. No clear outs, no nesting, no mucus plug, nothing.

Did anyone have their water break soon after contractions? I am having lots of contractions.. but no water breaking yet.

Good question! Stalking bc for both of my labors my water broke first.
I mean, i guess with the pains coming more and lasting longer is the best sign. Chances are if you are in real active labor you'll know fer sure thats it.

The midwives had to break my waters for me. This recent time they broke them just before having me push the baby out.

Mine had to be broken duing labour i got to fully dilated without my waters braking! :)

I had a sore back, that was it... and then four strong contractions, my water broke, and I VERY quickly progressed to 7 cm. :)

My waters broke when I was 8cm dilated so long after contractions started

I think the average is breaking during transition, like 7cm-10cm but obviously every labor is different

With my first it was just pain - I'd had period pains for about 3 days and then they turned into contractions, my waters broke, etc...

Second one - no pain, just a trickle of waters for AGES. I tried to get labour going but ended up being induced.

I tend to nest all the way through pregnancy, never had a show, have increased CM/change in bowel movements from 30+ weeks, get emotional, etc. So no clear signs - I'm just waiting for pain!

:dohh:

I lost my mucous plug a bit at a time (quite large bits though) for four days before having my bloody show and going into labour a few hours later. My contractions were irregular for the first 6 or so hours but I used an app on my I-pod to keep a track of them which really helped.

Oh yes and I had the 'clearing out' of the bowels for maybe a week before too :)

:haha: I'm with you there , there is no mistaking labour when it actually starts lol . . . That's my mentality now as I have had so mAny "early labour" symptoms.
