OK just posted on another thread that got me thinking, is there a difference in how you and your partner see christmas.

For OH its all about spending money because that shows how much you love someone!

For me its about the celebration and spending time with family.

It doesnt cause arguments but i ask him what he wants to get his daughter (5 who doesnt live with us) and i will then find the items he wants cheaper or good condition second hand. As he will miss bills to get her everything she wants where as i would rather make christmas fun and about family than suffering all through january!!!

Am i wrong in not getting her everything or getting cheaper things?

Jaden is only having £30-£50 spent on him, he will be 18 months old and wont understand whats going on! And that is more than enough to get him some nice things. But OH will expect £200 on E which we dont have so i will get it down to about £100 with sensible buying.

:flower:

So far I have spent about £20 on Billy and with that i have got him a ride on JCB i got it for £15 secondhand in the shops they are £100+, A fisherprice wagon and blocks for £5 from a charity shop still in the packaging never been used cost £50 brand new. I will buy him a couple of other things but i'm not spending loads he will only be 15months at xmas. For the older 2 i let them write a wish list of no more then 5 items and i try to get them what they want up to £150 each. The kids will also get a stocking each i don't see the point in loads of gifts its better to just get a few things they really want. Saying that hubby would get them £100's of pounds worth of stuff if i let him i just don't want to be broke because of xmas.

I think for me whats important is spending the Christmas holidays with the people you love and want to be around. I love spending Christmas with my family, they make it so much more special for me.
Obviously Christmas wouldnt be Christmas without gifts but I'd rather be with all my family than just on our own, we have always done it like that.
I spend about £50 on the twins, £40 on my parents, £20 each on my bro and sis and neice, £15 each on my two cousins and my aunt and uncle who spend Christmas day with us and £100 on OH but he always buys me the same back so I dont mind lol

the kids in our families are the most important
and i do spend quite a bit on them
the adults get token pressies just cheap things
like boxes of chocs of bottles of wine

we spend xmas day with oh's family because
there's more of them and lots of lo's for emily
to play with and we spend boxing day with my
family as we're only small and it's easier that way

but it always nice just to watch kids open
presents and see the smiles on their faces :cloud9:
i dont think it matters how many pressies
they get or what you get aslong as everyone has
a lovely day!

as for second hand we have a convo about this
yesterday actually, i'm quite happy to get her big
items off ebay and such but oh said no :dohh:
but if it saves us money i'll be doing it anyways
emily wont know the difference and it means more
money to spend on other things, we buy the others
new things though
