Ive been wondering this for a while. If we consider ourselves 5 months pregnant at 20 weeks, and 6 months pregnant at 24 weeks, then Im assuming people count it up in weeks, which doesnt work. For example...

28 weeks would mean 7 months pregnant
32 weeks would mean 8 months pregnant
36 weeks would mean 9 months pregnant
and 40 weeks 10 months pregnant.

I for one, am not pregnant for 10 months. After all, there can be 5 weeks in a month sometimes, and we arent even pregnant (technically!) for the first 2 weeks.

So how many weeks are we when we are *technically* 6 months pregnant, 7 months and 8 months? If we dont count it up in 4 weeks?

Thank you.

ive been wondering this too lol
people always want to know how far i am in months, but i only know in weeks

Same ^^ I just tell em i'm 21 wks nd let them figure it out from there lol

If asked the month, I found the chart on Wikipedia to be helpful.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Prenatal_development_table.svg

Otherwise, yeah, just go by weeks.

Edit:
The way I do it is to take O-day/fertilisation as 2 weeks. If O-day is not known, set LMP at 0 weeks. Childbirth on average is at 40 weeks. This is the usual way to count it.

If you want to count O-day/fertilisation as 0 weeks, then subtract the two weeks as necessary.

I wondered this too. The same as that if full term is 37 weeks does that mean i've only technically got 11 weeks to go instead of 13 weeks which would make me 40 weeks? I know quite alot of people go over the 37 weeks.

It's worked out that a month consists of 4.45 weeks. At 23 weeks I am 5 1/2 months. I believe six months is around the 26 week mark.

Hi, according to my midwife there are two ways to figure out how many months you are - although it's only ever roughly which is why they count on weeks!

Firstly, a month is not four weeks (apart from feb!), they are usually four and a half weeks so at 4 1/2 weeks you're 1 month then it's 9 weeks/2 months, 13 1/2 weeks/3 months, 18 weeks/4 months, 22 1/2 weeks/5 months and 27 weeks/6 months. You end up with 40 1/2 weeks but it's close enough.

The other (easier!) way is to count back from your due date. Mine is 26th feb so I'll be 6 months on 26th November. Still only roughly but easy to work out!

Hope that helps!

My last LMP was 30th of the month so I just go with each 'month' ending on the 30th of whatever month. I know every month is different but close enough for me to be happy using this.....easy to remember aswell

That's exactly what I've done, at the end of the day 9 months does not equal 40 weeks, and despite 40wks being the more accurate of the two, neither length of time is an exact rule, more just a guide.

Each week from my LMP I have a note in my diary (every Tuesday) saying which week I am... and every month on the 8th, I have a note in my diary saying how many months I am.

The people who ask me how many months I am aren't going to painstakingly do their sums and say "But that doesn't marry up with your due date"! ...and if they do, then I'll say "then why weren't you just happy with me telling you in weeks if you knew how to work it out??" :winkwink:

according to the iphone app; i was 6 months at 25 weeks?.. o_O but 3rd tri starts Nov 30.

This is something ive wondered as well. To be honest this thread has left me even more confused lol! I think I will go by the wiki chart linked I like the sound of 4 months.

When you read the wiki chart remember you are 0-1 month from week 1 to week 4.5 so at week 4.5 you say you are 1 month pregnant (not at week 1)...likewise you will be 4 months at week 18.5 not week 14.

i'd say, 26 weeks is 6 months, since a year is 52 weeks

if ppl want to know in months i tell them based on my due date (may 15),
so every 15th of the month is an added month i'm pregnant, that works out for me.

I say 26 weeks is about 6 months because 52 is a year.

Working in 4 week months I am already 6 months though

and 40 weeks 10 months pregnant.

In Japan they do consider that you are pregnant for 10 months- this always confused me until I realise that they count it as 28-day lunar months, so 40 weeks = 10 months. We say pregnancy is 9 months in English-speaking countries, but it's actually closer to 9.5 months.

I don't think there are any 5 week months are there? 4 weeks and 3 days is as long as calendar months get I thought.

Ha ha!! :haha:

I'm glad i'm not the only one with a pregnancy app on their phone!! I thought i was a right geek!!! This thread has left me more confused - not cause the advice is bad but because Maths has never been my strong point!! Think i'll stick to telling people in weeks and let them do the hard work!! xxx

if it happened...ever... i missed that
but what can happen is like... 5 sundays in a month, for some reason that months seems to last longer than others (like august this year, that was 5 sundays)...
obviously, it happens more often to have 5 same days of the week in one month, but ppl tend to notice the weekends more
