I've found it very hard to buy things, it makes everything so damn real, it scares me :dohh:

We just started buying, we just bought all the bath stuff this week.
Baby bathtub, washcloths, hodded towels, blaaahh blaahh blahh..
I have no clue what a baby needs,
It's all so overwhelming

I feel like I'm the only one that feels this way, everyone else seems have tonz by this far?

Honestly, babies don't need that much stuff. I know with my first I bought everything on those online lists. All the little handcloths, the tidbits, baby hairbrush... And in the end soo much was unnecessary!!!

All your baby really actually needs are some clothes, diapers, and a bed to sleep in. When they are newborns toys are completely useless.

Keep in mind:

Not all babies like those electric swings.
Not all babies like vibrating chairs.
Regular adult towels work the same as baby towels.
Regular wash cloths are exactly the same as baby ones.

As long as you have the essentials you are absolutely fine, everything else is just fun for the mama to buy really. If you aren't having fun, then take some deep breaths. You are doing just fine!

I didn't start buying anything until about a month ago. So well into my third trimester! Only now am I kind of stocked up on cloth diapers.

After we found out the sex at 20+2 we started buying things. :flow:

Everyone's different... I started buying at 10 weeks I've got everything now!

I brought bits and pieces every two weeks. Plus I got some presents of Family & friends. But I'm too organised and inpatient. Because I haven't got much money to buy all brand new I brought things on ebay.
I got my electric steriliser off ebay second hand for around £5 & I tired it out and it works great. I got baby monitors aswell off ebay. I got a bottle warmer off a friend for £3.50 :happydance:

Everytime I got paid I would limit myself to £10/£20 every two weeks to buy something for the LO.

We started buying just after we found out our little pumpkin was a girl, so at 19wks. :)

https://www.webmd.com/baby/guide/what-to-buy-pregnancy is the guide I'm following.

Rocking chair, diaper pail, nightlight, and CD player seem like they should have been on the nonessential list. We just recently started getting things together at 25 weeks.

I also don't think you need a changing unit.
I've got a changing mat.. You can just lay the mat on your bed and change the baby there.

We started buying things after my baby shower, so 35 weeks.

Same for us. We found out the sex at 20+1 and started buying things.

You can wait if you want to! There's no set time in which you have to shop. We just started early so that we could try to spread the price of everything out. Good luck though. Shopping should be fun... So if you are feeling overwhelmed take some deep breaths and try again later. :flower:

Thank you everyone, I feel so pressured by everyone to buy everything now.
I'm just not ready to yet, so I'll wait :)

And where I'm from I can't find out the sex :( So the fact that I have to buy everything in yellow and green doesn't help...

Also, I don't need a change table? OH keeps saying we do, but I don't think it's neccessary..
did anyone find it usefull?

oops, I didn't see your post about the change table:dohh:

I honestly didn't start until like 38 weeks. I waited til after my baby shower to buy anything besides some random little baby onesies and stuff. Babies really don't need much! Don't be too stressed, Molly never used like 80% of things given to me at my shower.

You don't need a change table but some people like them and others dont.
We started buying after we found out the sex at 19 wks.

i started buying sooo early. i found out at 6 weeks and went to asda the weekend after and couldnt resist buying some things.
I even ordered my pushchair at 11 weeks i think it was.

I have a changing table, it was bought for us as a gift by seans mum but it is one of the best things we have! In her nursery we didnt have any drawer space so it was great for that and it also makes life easier when getting her dressed and changing her nappy because i dont have to lean over things

xx

We started buying after our 20 week scans. Don't stress :hugs: babies, at least newborns, don't need much! Alot of people use a moses basket, you'll need clothes in newborn and 0-3, honestly keep the clothes fairly simple, sleepsuits etc, you want your baby to be comfortable first and they won't be used to wearing lots of fancy clothes. And let's face it, 90% of them will just be sicked on and leaked on from nappies, don't spend a fortune because most will end up stained anyway. Obviously nappies too. You're not advised to use any products on newborns, so you'll just need water and cotton wool to bathe, and give top and tails. Changing mats are useful in the early days too, save everything from leaking or explosive nappies! :haha: gotta love babies!

I'm just starting to buy just now :). I'm not getting a changing table - they freak me out incase baby falls off! I'm not getting a rocker or swing until after he is born either and i'm not buying the furniture set until he moves into his own room :flower:. I also wasn't going to buy a baby monitor but now someone else has decided they want to buy it so thats nice lol :). Don't stress yourself out over it xxx

know how you feel once i'd got my pram and moses basket home i sat staring at them scared stiff cos it all seemed so real now

Im 22weeks and have bought
Loads of newborn-3 months sleepsuits and baby grows
A few sets of clothes
Sterlising and feeding gear
Towels
*Pram on a babyplan

I need to buy...
Baby bath
Cot
Drawers
More clothes :flow:

I bought couple of little things before 12 weeks, but after 16 week have been buying more stuff and my parents and OHs parents have been buying too.. we dont need anymore clothes, thats for sure!

I'm going to start buying after 30 weeks.. After all babies don't really need much at first and besides I'm on team yellow so there's not much fun in getting whites and yellows now lol xx
