My lo is 6 months old and currently has breakfast (small bowl of porridge) & fruit and veg (puree & finger foods) later in the afternoon. We are going to progress to meat this week and when happy with that try to move more towards 3 meals a day. He has 5 x 7oz bottles a day and seems to be naturally having less milk throughout the day (ie not finishing the bottles like he used to). Question is which bottle/ milk feed did you drop first & when? Thanks!

When I switched from breastfeeding to formula with DS at 5 months he was having 4x 8oz bottles at 8am/12/4pm/730pm.
I believe it was around 7-8 months he went down to three 8oz bottles at 8am/2pm/730pm.
If he's leaving milk behind in most of the bottles I would definately try dropping one and adjusting so they're equally apart from each other if that's possible  That's what we did and it has worked well for us. :)

Hey thanks for your reply, that sounds like a good idea! Did you leave a gap inbetween giving food and the milk?

Yeah...right now we do the following:

8am wake up, 8 oz formula followed by breakfast right after.
930: snack
1030-1130: nap
12: lunch with water or watered down juice
2: 8 oz formula
230-4: nap
5: dinner with water
630: snack
730: 8 oz formula

I had always left room between the bottles and meals because I was told if they filled up one they might refuse the other. Although now that I am thinking about how we are going to introduce cows milk I'm trying to bring the drinks closer to his meals...(we used to have bottle right when he woke up and then 30 min later do breakfast).

Exactly this! Except LO went from 4x 7oz bottles to 2x 8oz 7.30am and 7pm, and a 6oz at 2/3pm.

She's now 8.5 months and has 3 decent meals and is drinking less - normally 7/8oz in the morning, 4/5oz after lunch and 6/7oz at bedtime. She averages 20oz per day which I think is about right for 8/9 months.

At around 7 months we went from 4 x 6oz to 3 x 7oz.
Our feeding routine was:
6:30 - porridge made of 3oz formula from bottle
7:30 - rest of bottle 4oz (for some reason, both my twins prefer breakfast then milk, rather than milk then breakfast like most )
12:00 - lunch
2:00/30 - bottle
4:30/5:00 - tea
6:30 - bottle

Now at nearly 9 months, they are taking less in afternoon, around 4/5 oz.

Thanks for your replies, when my lo starts eating a little more I think i will move to the 3 bottles a day which seems pretty standard. I'd forgotten about snacks as was thinking how would I get my lo from breakfast to lunch without milk!
